All about the second series of Stranger Things

Is it Halloween already? We need to get back to the '80s ASAP.

The Stranger Things cast are some of our favourite guests to have visited the Radio 1 and 1Xtra studios in recent months and now it seems like we'll be seeing a lot more of them.

The trailer for the second series of the eighties show dropped during the 2017 Super Bowl and the show will return for nine new episodes later this year.

There are many questions about what we'll see when the show returns but what do we definitely know about season two?

The cast didn't let any secrets slip when they visited Radio 1

Here's what you need to know about the return of Stranger Things.

Things are going to get bigger and better

Matt and Ross Duffer knew what they wanted to do with season two before they started making season one - and it sounds like it will be a very different show second time around.

Season one does almost feel like a big movie that comes to a sort of ending
Matt Duffer

"Even way back when we pitched to Netflix the first season, we talked about where it would potentially go," said Matt in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

"They understood the potential. Season one does almost feel like a big movie that comes to a sort of ending. A lot of that was based on the character of Will and the repercussions of him being in this upside down world for a week.

"Exploring that would be the second season. Once we got into the room for season two, we started expanding our mythology."

The fate of psychic Eleven was left up in the air at the end of series one, but the trailer shows she is alive and kicking, although may not be in the greatest of places when we return for series two.

There will be #JusticeForBarb

Poor Barb. Viewers of season one were united in their grief over how things turned out for Nancy's BBF and while actress Shannon Purser won't be back for the second series, there will be justice for Barb when the show returns.

Barb will not be forgotten. We’ll make sure there’s some justice for Barb
Matt Duffer

"Barb will not be forgotten. We’ll make sure there’s some justice for Barb," Matt promised in an interview with IGN.

"People get very frustrated, understandably, that the town doesn’t seem to be really dealing with Barb. That stuff is all happening. We’re just not spending any screen time on it.

"It’s not like her parents are like ‘Oh Barb left. She died!’ Season 1 actually takes place over the course of six or seven days – it’s a really short period of time."
"So part of what we want to do with hypothetical Season 2 is to explore the repercussions of everything that happened."

The gang's getting bigger

Mike, Dustin, Lucas and Eleven may have a new female friend joining their adventures in season two, with Matt Duffer telling Hollywood reporter that a new child actor had been added to the cast.

"We did a wide, wide search for one new kid that we're adding. She's a cool new character," he said.

We'll be spending a lot more time in The Upside Down

We will learn a lot more about The Upside Down in series two, with the tease of new monsters to terrorise the town of Hawkins when the show returns.

If the Monster is dead, was it a singular monster? What else could be out there?
Ross Duffer

"We obviously have this gate to another dimension, which is still very much open in the town of Hawkins," Ross Duffer told Entertainment Weekly.

"A lot of questions there in terms of, if the Monster is dead, was it a singular monster? What else could be out there?

"We really don’t go in there much until they go in to find Will at the end. So we’ve opened up this doorway, and to us it’s exciting to talk about, like, what else is behind there? There’s a lot more mystery there to be solved."
