DJ Khaled’s best advice for achieving your goals

If you follow on Snapchat (and who doesn’t?) you’ll know that he has alllll of the keys to success. Heck, he even wrote a book on the subject! With this week’s episode of focusing on how to achieve your goals, we thought we’d take a look at DJ Khaled’s best words of wisdom for doing just that.

Don’t be afraid to start from the bottom

Jam has DJ Khaled on the phone to talk about his new album.

In his 2016 book The Keys, DJ Khaled explained the importance of putting your pride aside, and climbing that success ladder from the very bottom rung. “People are impatient sometimes, and they think they’re too good to start at the bottom,” he wrote. “That’s playing yourself in a big way. That’s called having a short-term vision, aka the wrong vision. The key is those first opportunities lead to more opportunities.”

Stay away from the haters

“Never entertain ‘they’, keep ‘they’ away from you, the key is to stay away from ‘they’,” said the producer in a 2016 interview with Forbes. Positive vibes and people only, thanks.

Recognise your supporters

Whether it’s the best mate who proof-read your dissertation for you, or the grandma who helped you pay for your books, DJ Khaled wants you to remember it’s not all about you. “I didn’t say I’m the best. That’s an important distinction; I said we. That means me, Fan Luv, my team, and everybody who's got love and positive energy.”

Don’t do it for the money

Who wants to be rich and miserable? Not DJ Khaled, anyway. “When I think about my goals for the next year, I don’t rank them in order of what’s going to make me the most money. I think about what’s going to make me happy and what’s going to lead to the next opportunity that will make me happy. Put vision first; that way you’re always excited about the wins and what’s coming next.”

Ignore all obstacles

“One challenge I encountered early in my career was to finance my own vision,” he told Forbes. “I overcame by never giving up.”

Strike the right balance

“Stay humble and very confident at the same time” is the DJ Khaled way – and it works. Nobody likes a diva, but a little self-belief goes a long way.

Never give up

Still feel like you're not getting anywhere? Allow Khaled to paint a beautiful portrait of success for you. “The other day the grass was brown, now it’s green cuz I ain’t give up. Never surrender.” Poetic, no?

One word: moisturise

“The key to more success is cocoa butter,” claimed DJ Khaled on his Snapchat. "I put cocoa butter all over my face and my iconic belly and my arms and legs. Why live rough? Live smooth." There you have it, people: just keep moisturising.
