How Katy Perry made her huge 2017 pop comeback

ICYMI, is BACK - and she's headlining in Hull!

It has been four long years since Katy's last album, Prism, but the pop queen is enjoying her return with new single Chained To The Rhythm (and did we mention a performance at Radio 1's Big Weekend?).

Co-written by , Chained To The Rhythm is pure pop - and features a guest rap from grandson, Skip Marley.

But it's not the only thing that has contributed to Katy being the name on everyone's lips right now. Here's exactly how she masterminded her huge comeback.

She shook the world with a new promo photo (and new hair)

Just three days before she revealed Chained To The Rhythm, Katy Perry shared a new promotional photo on Instagram with the simple message: "New life who dis".

Fans knew what this meant. The fourth era of Katy Perry was upon us and boy were we ready for it.

She confirmed she would appear at the 2017 Grammys

And obviously slayed her politically-charged performance.

She sent fans on a treasure hunt to hear the single first

Katy wasn't content with just teasing fans online, she made them work for the music.

She planted special Chained To The Rhythm glitter balls in various locations around the world where fans could go and listen to the single two days before its release.

There was one just down the road from the Radio 1 office and our Newsbeat team were on the scene to find out what Katy's biggest fans in London thought of the song.

She released the most amazing lyric video

Who doesn't love tiny animals and tiny furniture?

The actual video was even more nuts

Welcome to Utopia.

Here's the moderately risky artwork for the single

Katy Perry's Chained To The Rhythm has been added to the Radio 1 A-list. You're going to be hearing a lot more of this huge pop anthem in the coming weeks.

And did we mention she's playing the Radio 1 Big Weekend?
