Shutter speed

Description

A Bitesize guide to effects with shutter speeds.

Classroom Ideas

Students could experiment with taking photos using different shutter speeds. As in the clip, they can compare the results capturing the same subject with different shutter speeds. They could also go outside to photograph objects moving at different rates, such as leaves blowing, insects moving, and a stationary stone. Students can look at some examples of nature and sports photography that capture motion, and discuss what shutter speeds might have been used. When students are secure in their understanding of shutter speeds, the class could move on to exploring the relationships between shutter speed, aperture, lighting and exposure value.
