Chicken wire
Description
A Bitesize guide to making a sculpture armature from chicken wire.
Classroom Ideas
In groups, students could create sculptural forms. These could be abstract shapes or the wire could be pressed around real objects to replicate their form. Depending on time, these could then be covered with plaster bandage, papier mùché or fabric. There could be a class discussion on the properties of the chicken wire as a modelling material - what was easy, what was difficult, what aspects of scale or detail did it work best for? Students could combine the chicken wire modelling with plaster, paint and other artistic technques they have studies, to create a piece of sculpture.
