Classroom Ideas
If possible, bring different types of digital camera into the classroom for students to experiment with after watching the clip. They could photograph images with different numbers of pixels, then print them out on photographic paper to see how much they can scale the image up before quality is compromised. They could also shoot close-up and far-away images using different lenses on an SLR. How do the results compare with adjusting the zoom function of a compact camera? Ask students to research the effect of using different lenses, noting circumstances in which they might be used, and considering the benefits and drawbacks in each case. This could include flattening the image or distortion.
