Experimental sculpture using found objects
Description
Sculptor Pete Laster demonstrates how natural and man-made objects can be combined experimentally to create sculpture. These are then photographed. He explains how to look for interesting juxtapositions of colour, tension and scale.
Classroom Ideas
Students could explore the possibilities of using unusual materials or objects in their sculpture work. They could look into how different materials, shapes and colours can be combined to harmonious, contrasting or even unsettling effect. Students could research and select examples of found object artworks that appeal to them, such as Picassoâs Bullâs Head made from a bicycle saddle and handlebars, Duchampâs Fountain, made from a urinal, or Manrayâs Cadeau, a flat iron with nails attached.
