You know it's going to be a good day when...

Chris Evans | 07:08 UK time, Friday, 6 March 2009

You know it's going to be a good day when...

...you wake up early enough to enjoy ten minutes of reflection in bed before the day starts.

What do I have to do today ? What do I want to do today ? What are my priorities ? What can I fit in today ? And most important of all - what time and where do we want our Friday night to get under way.

I then sequence everything through my head to see if I can realistically fit it all in, like the running order for a television or radio show and if it's too full things have to go.

As you get older you realise that less is definitely more and it's quality not quantity, better to do one thing and give yourself the time to enjoy it than try and fit three things in and rush around just to get them done - too much stress, not enough enjoyment.

You also know it's going to be a good day when you climb out of bed and notice how soft the bedroom carpet is under your feet and how glad you are you went for that particular pile or weave or whatever it's called. I stepped on ours this morning and immediatley thought,

"I love this carpet."

Have I been taking too much night nurse ? Maybe, hey man... ha ha !

I like to prefer it means I have the day under control, for now at least and that some good sleep has been had and some positive energy acquired

So, here we go:- a bit of work, then the men arrive with Tash's new desk, I take Noah whilst Mum sorts herself out and has her daily bonding session with the Beth dog, then the family climb aboard the funbus off to Blackbushe aerodrome where we have huge cups of coffee and toast before me and Spencer, the dogless Dog Whisperer disciple, are going to have a blue sky fly to Wales and back, got to keep those hours up you know. Back for the show and then visitors for tonight and tomorrow.

Noah's big sis is coming to say hello.

Cold's moved on to the dry cough stage now... ummm nice.

Have a great one everyone, see you on the radio.

CLP.

P.S. Tash says the blog stresses her out so if you would be so kind as to forgive her, she will definitely blog again, but not to order - more when the mood takes her. Ta.

Great plans Chris! Everything sounds hunky dory in the Evans' household. And Tash is forgiven - she has enough to contend with I think and stressing because of the blog is definately a no-no. Have a great day.

  • Comment number 2.

While you fly over Wales, look down over Mold and Connah's Quay (presuming you get that far!!) and give me a wave. Although you will probably only be going over South Wales so I won't hang out the window with my binocs ogling every plane that comes over!!!!!!

  • Comment number 3.

Looks like it's just you and little ol' me today Chris. With a few hundred miles in between (before anyone gets any ideas - that's how rumours start!!).

I knew it was going to be a good day when I stepped out of bed and sank into my cup of tea which I hadn't finished and i had left on the floor next to my bed very early this morning. Oh joy!! One good thing was that the tea was mopped up by my book I had been reading and not the carpet. I think I had the gist of that page anyway so can skip it. All these blessings in disguise!!

But it will be a good day now as all that activity really woke me up, got me out the house knowing that that was the bad bit and the rest of the day is good! Some logic there - I think.

    Morning Chris!

nice and early today. and you are so right about quality not quantity. we have a couple in our social circle whose calendar is always bursting. consequently, whenever an invite gets floated around for drinks or whatever, you tend to get given a time-slot by them, they then turn up (invariably late!) all flustered because they couldn't get away from their previous engagement, and have another one to go to after this one .... WHAT?!?!?!

Something's gotta give somewhere. You can't please all of the people all of time time, but you can indeed wear yourself out trying!

Sun's out here in Suffolk but there is a frost, which means de-frosting the car in about .. ooooh, 5 minutes. Booo!!!

Right, off to the Factory Of Fun called workplace.

    Catch you all later!

    Deev x x x

ps: Tash - of course you're forgiven! xx

Hi Chris and all early birds,

Had a hectic week and so am only now able to catch up with the blog. Was sorry to read about you all going down with colds and its good to hear life is on the up.
Enjoy the helicopter trip - its certainly seems to be beautiful weather for birds eye viewing today.

Spend a great weekend catching up with your family visitor.

I agree with you and CtD - less is definitely more.

Take care one and all - must be off to work.

Tash - look forward to hearing from you whenever you feel the urge to write.

Durbangirl - that's what I like, find the silver lining!

CLP, wonderful start to the day. Mine was a bit slower, I have to say, but once I got into the car I was singing all the way to work (I think I got a few funny looks, but I don't care!). It's a beautiful day and I've got the afternoon off. So I think I might go to the butterfly place (ooh, can't remember what it's supposed to be called) because I've been meaning to go for nearly a year and now I work just down the road. Silver lining ahoy!

    Good Morning Chris,

Enjoy your day, sounds great. What a Wonderful World!

I missed Tash's blog but fully understand. It will be good to hear from her again one day. Also missed the picture of Noah, but loved the picture of the Himalayas, always wanted to go there!

Hiya Chris, you always sound so "up" - it's really quite inspiring!

Have a great weekend - lovely that Noah will get a visit from his big sister.

Tash: just come on here whenever you want - I agree; if I had to come up with a blog to write, even once a week, I'd be stressed out! Hope to see you soon, though!

Blogging at 7am... you clearly do have your day sorted out! I had lots of time for reflection this morning too... only because our little Noah was screaming at 6am not because I woke up wanting to reflect or anything!

  • Comment number 14.

Well, the sky may be blue but took a wee while to defrost the Micra. 2 Degrees - yikes!

super_bagpuss: if I had the day off I'd clean the house top to bottom so that when the love of my life (or Mr Deev!) is there over the weekend, quality time can be had together.

It's free, it'll make you feel all smug and self-satisfied and if you put some music on while you do it, you can turn it into a workout routine!!

Morning Chris, Tash, Noah and All Bloggers,

I am in such a good mood today, even though I slept really badly and woke up at 5:30. However, when I did wake up all I could hear was a blackbird singing so beautifully that it put a smile on my face. So I got up and made a brew, then thought to myself that it was too nice to drive to work so decided to walk.

I live by a river, so the walk was lovey and to make it even better what pops up on my ipod - Mr Blue Sky, so I sang along at the top of my voice - am I bovvered what people thought - NO xx

    So my ARF please...

    Thanks Chris

    Have a great day everyone.

    Glad your day’s sorted.

I know it's gonna be a good day when I wake to sunshine and blue skies peeking through the curtains, the best feeling ever.

Look forward to Tash’s next blog, but she has to be in the mood, and then it will flow.

Enjoy your weekend, and big sis visiting, how lovely.

Ah Christophe...the wonder of those few minutes when you realise that you've got them as 'extra' on your day...I had that yesterday...but not this morning unfortunately...however, I'm currently supping a turtley delishus cuppa coffee and munching on a Wagon Wheel (other sizes used to be available) and thinking how beautiful the sea and sky look from my fourth story window.

It is going to be a good day, later on I'm meeting up with a very dear friend who I haven't seen for AGES dah-link...and I think, at last, that the heating is working at the Sett...am now touching wood...and I am looking forward to the Badger's return tomorrow hoorah!

Good luck Deb, hope you get good news Nicki x

Thanks for the advice re cleaning the house- the only issue is Mr bp is in bed after working nights so he might not appreciate the noise - hence the fact I am having to be very quiet

Bless you Tash....whenever you feel like joining us again we will welcome you with open eyes! Enough stress in the world without getting in a fuddle about us and the blogging world. The odd photo now and again would be nice though.

Anyhow....busy day again here in sunny Northants although I'd much rather be doing the chores instead of working. So am a bit envious of those lucky enough to have the day off and get ahead for the weekend.

Oh, well, at least Mr Sains Bugs will get a visit later rather than the Saturday scrum.

had the need to share my big EUGH!!!!

Just made my morning work mug of tea only to find that the milk has turned and the shop is 4 miles away ;-( So have had to have a black coffee instead its JUST NOT THE SAME!

my incident smattered morning started at about 2.30 when old grumpy mut needed out for the loo, then at 3.15 he decided to tell me that he'd run out of water, Oh and then at 4 remembered that he hadn't done the "other" at 2.30 - whilst out doing the "other" caught the scent of a bitch in season and went for a donder! Mr Egg eventually surfaced took the truck out and went to pick him up just down the road. 7.30 my Rascal alarm did his best "steal the baby's breath" impression and wrapped himself over my nose and mouth whilst purring LOUDLY!

Ahhh but they are cute aren't they!

I put my washing out earlier but the sun is now surrounded by grey bits so it may not be out too much longer. Must keep one eye on that - which makes typing even harder than usual........

Good luck to all those with nice things like birthdays or sad and tricky things ahead this weekend - especially to Gingembre.

The first anniversaries are the hardest - or so I'm told by those in a position to know - and they seem to agree that time does help ease things. Hope you and your daughter can get through it together.

It's been lovely hearing from Tash too. Loved the blog last Friday RE: U2 and the photo. He really is gorgeous!!Tash has got a lot to deal with though right now and shouldn't feel stressed about writing on the blog. Dipping in and out is fine with me. I think that's what I will have to do too. Too many things to do not enough hours in the day.

I need to listen to your advice Chris and stop trying to spin so many plates!! I like to help people but need to learn to say "No" sometimes!

Have a great show and a fab weekend.

    Love to all

Morning/afternoon everyone from a very mild Upstate NY. Cloudy this morning but temps are supposed to be in the low 50s. Very unseasonable for the region. Normally we're in the 30s with snow..... Question is, will we pay for it later.

steffib1 and Crummy, haven't had a fried egg on my beans on toast, but will have to give it a try. I have just started adding cheese to it which I think was a CLP recommendation.

    Chris,

Mark Radcliffe showed how it should be done on Tuesday evening.

So if you want to prove that you are an equally good DJ then just play Immigrant song by Led Zeppelin as the first song on the show today.

Hi Penny, I have done the marmite and even bovril on the toast before the beans, but that was in the days before I started adding cheese. I'll have to try it again with the cheese.....

More meetings today I'm afraid. One later this morning, over lunch, then one mid afternoon. The last one will be a struggle as I had a very late night playing footie last night.... but it was worth it.....

All this talk about food and I still haven't eaten.

Will have to make up for it later.

    Looking forward to FNWC.

Cheese, worcestersestershire sauce. Is how I used to eat beans. All mixed in the pan...then a wee sprinkling of extra cheese atop the mess and under the grill for but a minute to goo it up.

    Immigrant Song eh.

Now you've got me all AAAAAAAAAAAAA-UH!

All this talk of drinking.................have just had some apple juice - which was nice, but not quite the thing for a Friday.

Maybe I'll manage a small one before bed tonight (ooh er...........) if the traffic isn't too horrendous. Just loving hearing about all the jams that Sal's talking about on my route!

Never mind, only 50 mins to go before my official end of week time.

I'll make sure that I eat first Cheryl and yes Bondy I'm up for an early start too!

It went well thanks for asking Cheryl. I was the first to turn up to the meeting room and the General Manager introduced me to him. The meeting was interesting, really glad that I went.

Told LM that I met the big boss at work today and his reply was 'how big was he..was he massive?'

    Debbie x

  • Comment number 96.

LOL Deb - LM is so cute. Can't wait til April!!

    Right. Developments Chez Deev.

Not sure if I'll make FNWC this eve: just rang Mr Deev to ask how his day went (unions in to sort out their job situs etc). He wants us to go straight down the local, as soon as I get in, no time to pontificate, so he can tell me about his day, and then we're getting a takeaway (hurrah!)

I asked if he still had a job. His reply: "at the moment, i'll tell you later"

Hells Bells people. Here we go again. If I don't make it later then the Speckled Hen has more than likely consumed me. If I do make it later, it could be a messy Deev what turns up!!

    Flippin' eck and then some.

    Morning....afternoon .....whenever chaps!!!

I have the feeling I snoozed through a lovely sunny day but, unusually for a first night, I slept like a log.

One of the joys of working nights is the earlier mornings; watching the sun come up while feeding some little 3 pound scrap of nothing in SCBU and listening to the birdies giving it some welly.

Hey hazel-love....one of our standard cheapie meals as student nurses was what we called Millionaire's Beans....

grated cheddar cheese mixed with a little salad cream and lots of L&P then spread thickly on bread (toast one side first then spread on the raw side) and grill until bubbly then pour the hot beans on top.

We used to get the ends of the cheese piece at the cheese counter very cheaply and bread that was a little stale and it was a dirt cheap meal for us poor nurses!! Things have changed a little now..... the students on the unit bring micro-meals or packs of sushi or little salads they have packed at home. I do warn them that some nights we don't get time to eat......
