Afternoon all...

Chris Evans | 14:06 UK time, Wednesday, 8 August 2012

...
There was a young boxer called Nicola, she was like Rocky only from Yorkshire (and a girl), she danced like Sugar Ray Leonard, and had all her opponents in a whirl.

My goodness me they don't come much tougher than this little fire cracker. She's my pick of the day today.

Put that in your blog and publish it.

Peace and Love

Christoph - could I be first across the line? Could it be gold for me today?!!!!

In reply to MC - as for sitting on the sofa watching the Olympics ... I'm starting to look like an overstuffed armchair! Still, I've always said I was built for comfort, not speed!!

It seems the post box painted gold in honour of Jessica Ennis was vandalised within 24 hours of being painted .... isn't that dreadful? Unlike Jessica Ennis, the mindless idiot or idiots who did this will never, ever be winners.

Deevs - hope you've managed to get your hands on some chocolate by now, otherwise should we all take cover?!

Good Call Christoff! Just heard that Nicola is now through to the final so guarenteed the GOLD or SILVER!!!

Now, never mind Sir Chris Hoy!!

What about Sir Chris JOY!!!! Supplier of Olympic Size Morning Excitement and Thrills!

I had a long drive to a work meeting this morning and I did it with a huge grin on my face as you and the team just made us feel like we were there in the park too

The roar from the crowd for Sir Chris Hoy was awesome and I loved Laura Trott's Dad.

What on earth are we going to do next week!

LOL Jillygoat! It just so happens that I found some choccy buttons covered in pimples in the cupboard (jazzles?). Just what the doctor ordered, and now the empty packet is staring at me!

Just briefly popping in to say I'm really confused. I've just had 3 x emails from the ±«Óãtv Moderators saying that the posts I have complainted about are staying put as they're not in contravention of the ±«Óãtv rules.

    Eh?

I've not been here for days, and certainly not asked for anything to be moderated to I'm proper confuse.com!

Hopefully I'll be around a bit more tomorrow pm and in a position to contribute some of my nonsense drivel to this ere wonderful blog.

Off to lay down in dark room, cuddling a penguin.

    Evening all

Sorry Chris, I still don't get women boxing. It just seems such an alien sport for a woman to want to do. All the luck in the world to Nicola though, I hope it's another gold to add to our haul (at this rate all the post boxes in the country will be golden...).

Sezza, do what I do, make a list, intend to use it next time, lose it so make another one. etc etc etc....

Hope everybody is OK - Olympics beckon.

    Hello.

I agree mtd ffb, I was going to say the same thing, it just doesn't seem right for a woman to do boxing. I'm all for equality but some things are not very ladylike just as some things we ladies do would not be very macho for a man.

Besides there has only ever been one pretty boxer and that's the great Mohammed Ali.

I do wish her well though and hope it's another gold.

    MM xxx

PS On second thoughts though there are times in life when a quick left hook would come in very handy!

  • Comment number 8.

Hi. Just a quick comment from an habitual lurker... The point about women boxing is the same as women being able to compete - even from countries that we believe suppress women's rights. This Olympics includ Female competitors from all countries involved for he first time ever. Hurrah!!!!

  • Comment number 9.

There was a time when women playing football was a joke. But team G.B. women put paid to that.

  • Comment number 10.

I get your point Lena, it's not that I disagree with allowing women to box - it just doesn't appeal to me as something I would like to watch (I'm not that keen on men boxing either).

I've just been watching the news about one of the women from Saudi Arabia who ran today. Because she was not allowed to wear a proper running kit, she was 45 seconds behind the rest of the field - I applaud the Saudi authorities for finally allowing female competitors but she was not allowed to truly compete (if you see what I mean).

  • Comment number 11.

mtd ffb. I totally see what you mean even with your point about boxing. But I believe that is exactly the point - challenging our comfort/belief zone. Enjoy. Xxx

Deevs - I had an email from the modders telling me a post of mine HAD been removed because it contravened the rules.
It was from absolutely weeks ago and was a comment I made about there being a blog meet north of the border and suggesting Edinburgh and hoping some of the lovely Scottish bloggers would sort it out!!

Well as regulars will know. that meet went ahead mid-June - so bit late modders!

time for bed ..... ttfn, Crumpy xx

Another beautiful day ahead by the look of things.

I haven't actually watched any of the olmpics, I daren't as just reading about them on the DM on line gets me all watery eyed, and every morning driving to work I have ended up with tears in my eyes with Chris' interviews and clips, it is all just so emotional.

Anyway, have a good day everyone.

    Morning blogettes:

Chrissie: Hope b-i-l is making a full recovery. Is he home yet?

Update on neighbour's little grandson. Many of you will remember he has a rare syndrome only 2 in a million suffer from. He's recently had chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. He's also recently had first bithday. Good news! He's responding well to treatment and they've been feeding him a special high nutrition feed and he's starting to put on weight! At the moment he looks like about 4 or 5 month old baby but he's started to get some teeth. We had hugs with his grandparents who are back home for a few days. Back up to Newcastle (the specialist unit where he's having treatment) at the weekend. Thanks to all bloggers for your positive thoughts and prayers - they appear to be working !!!

    Regards PJ

Who's also very excited about the Olympics !

    Hiya:

Just having a wee check-in while waiting for the washing to finish and get it out on line. I could get used to being home during the day - I have loved this week, even though it is vanishing before my very eyes.

Thanks, again, to everyone regarding my brother-in-law. Since Saturday, the whole scenario has had an air of unreality about it, but we are getting there.

Jilly: just lovely to see you - I do think of you when you are not here. Just so sorry to hear about your Mum - a nightmare for your Dad, but how wonderful he has a fantastic family looking after him. And, bless your lovely Mum - life is just too hard sometimes. xx Thank you for passing on the story of the monoxide alarms. I have told absolutely everyone this week - every shop I have been in, neighbours, just everyone. btw: I really saddened to read about the grafitti on the post box for Jessica Ennis - just beyond belief.

PJ: thanks for letting us the fabulous news about the little boy! Just wonderful news really, the family must be over the moon. And thank you for asking for my b-i-l: he's still in hospital. I hope he will get home today, but I really am now starting to think there are going to be quite serious repurcussions over the amount of gas he must have inhaled.

I am sorry, honestly, if I am going on about this too much. Promise I will shut up now!

MC: oooh, I know how you feel - I am dreading the closing ceremony!

Bids: I hope got everything sorted at the bank. I discovered last week that we have been charged for about a year for a service we no longer get from our bank. I feel a letter coming on!

Maddy: how right you were the other day about the gutter press. It makes my blood boil - and the ironic thing is, these articles are probably written by people who spend their entire days in the pub! Gits!

Today sees MrS and I going for a walk to a very nice wee pub with a beer garden, so we may have to have a drink of something cool. MsS is joining us this evening, and then tomorrow we are going to get on a train and go "somewhere". I may have to try and get something a little more concrete organised!

Sezza: enjoy your wee break - hope you all have a lovely time. xx

    Happy Thirsty Thursday!

    C xx

    Hello All!

    Hope everybody is well?

I know it's been a while, but so much has (and hasn't) been going on! We've moved into the 'big house' up here in the Northern Isles, and haven't had internet for two weeks! The boy is still on summer hols and driving me bonkers......and t'other is away working hard!

The olympics have been amazing, the boy is now very into cycling and thinks Bradley Wiggins should be winning everything! I'm having to time my watching with thomas dvds inbetween but have seen all I wanted to!

Bump is progressing nicely too....and I'm very impressed with the maternity services up here, so far they have been amazing!

Better go and sort out the ever hungry boy.....where do they put it all?

    Afternoon everyone,

Oh Bingo, #2 you do make me laugh :-)))

MTD, I am not comfortable about the women boxing, and like you too, i dont really like watching men box either .

Dozer , Oh i know exactly what you mean. I thought i would be a complete basket case watching the opening ceremony, but i kept it all together. Then we watched it again on the Sunday morning, and i was in bits . Why ???? I cried for the whole of the Jubilee too . This Sunday night is going to be a real test for me.

Chrissie, glad you are enjoying your hols. When i am off work, I always wonder how I manage to pack so much in & work full time . I think that when I retire, I may just struggle to even get out of bed somedays !! It's a good job so much can be done on-line !!!

I have been in the office on my own this morning, and i did try and steal five minutes to do some personal admin. The minute i started it , there was a flood of people coming into the room. I swear they must have hidden cameras in here.

Right, not much to report from Cheshire Cheese land, just me and the parrot in the office this afternoon , I will be so glad to see 5pm come round :-))))

PJ, good news about the little boy, the power of this blog is amazing .

    Right, got to go.

    Afternoon All,

Glorious sunshine down south - hooray, and later on today I am off to the coast for chis and fips :)))

PJ, Good news about the boy, thanks for letting us know xx

Chrissie, Glad you are enjoying your hols and I hope that the b-i-l makes a full recovery, it does sound quite serious and scary xx

Bingo, Ditto to what MC said you do make me smile xx

Also agree about the boxing, but that's not to say that I don't want Nicola to win a gold :)

Feeling a bit sorry for myself at the mo, as this morning I stubbed my toe on the safe door at church and to say that it's throbbing, swollen and the nail has already turned black would be an understatement! In fact I think it's probably broken, but as the hospital can't do anything about that I shall just hobble on :(( Still the suns shining :))

Chrissie - thank you xx Absolutely no need to stop talking about your b-i-l .... it's a silent killer which kills more people each year than we realise, so if we all tell a few people and they do the same, pretty soon the word will have spread. If it saves a life then it will be worth it xx

Deevs - glad the chocolate crisis has passed!!

PJ - what great news about the little lad - I hope he continues to thrive x

AliB - ouch!! I broke a toe last year and all the hospital did was strap the broken toe to the next toe along. Is there someone waiting on you hand and foot (pardon the pun)?!!!! Take care x

Have been catching up on everyones activities but haven't got much to say for myself.
Ebs - lovely to hear from you way, way, way oop North! Sounds as if you are relishing your new life.

Chrissie - your story about B-I-L has prompted me to look for a new carbon-monoxide alarm. We had one but it got old and died and I haven't replaced it.
    I WILL NOW!!

Day off tomorrow. My pal Naomi, who I stayed with in France, is over and has the use of a house in Betws-y-Coed, so I am spending the day with her.
Hopefully the sun will shine and we can have a picnic in the garden.

Having had my washer over a year, I suddenly discovered a button that you can press to time it to come on. (yes, i need to get out more , i know!) So , hopefully , when i get in it will all be done and ready to go on the line.
Am planning on a weekend of sitting in the garden, as the start of the weening myself of the Olympics process . Not sure if I will be able to cope once the flame goes out and it's "The End" .
I must get my plane ticket booked for Rio !

    Hello Everyone, remember me?

Its been ages since I've been on here, life has been so busy. Henry-pup is now 6 months old and hooge, his training is coming on well and he has been an angel (err, well maybe not THAT good) when we've been away in the caravan.

How is everyone? I've had a quick catch up this morning, but not really had time to read everything.

I've watched the limpix but it's been online in the office when nobody is around .. :-)

Weather is fantastic in Norfolk today, hope the rest of you are managing to enjoy it too.

Have loved Chris & the show these last few days, vibrant, fun & exhilarating. Absolutely brilliant!

Well, must go - have a great weekend everyone

    London 2012 - THANK YOU

I would just like to say how proud I feel to be British and especially of all TEAM GB, the Olympic Park, all other venues and everyone from the volunteers to Sir Seb Coe, for showing all of the world what we can do, and do extremely well.

I would also like to express my feelings for all the other athletes from all around the world, and I hope when the closing ceremony someone could mention in the closing speech that every single person who attended the London 2012 Olympics in my opinion are all HEROES. THANK YOU ALL FOR A WONDERFUL 16 DAYS.

God bless you all and I hope that you will take home many happy memories of this event, you have certainly given us lots of memories with much happiness and pride.

    Hello.

Everyone must be out in the sunshine or watching the tv or both!

Ali-I hope your toe is soon better. Ouch! I can imagine how painful it must be, it's bad enough to walk into a piece of furniture and knock it but the pain soon goes.

MC-Congratulations on finding the timer button on the washing machine. I wonder if mine has one? Last night I made a new discovery re my keyboard here, Tom walked over it and now I know what the FN button is. Now know what all the F buttons are for and not just the F5.

CG-I bet Henry is now a handsome boy and he must be wonderful company in the caravan. Pets bring us so much pleasure don't they.

Sue Jones- I agree with every word you say. The Olympics have put the Great back in Britain. Everyone taking part is a hero like you say.

Although I will feel sad when it's all over I'm certainly looking forward to the closing ceremony. It doesn't seem possible but I think it will even top the opening ceremony. It will be absolutely breathtaking. Something to record and watch again.
