Cycling in the city of Edinburgh

Description

A cross-section of Edinburgh cyclists explain why this form of transport is so popular, even in a busy city. Health, cost and getting to your destination fast are all given as reasons to get on your bike.

Classroom Ideas

Students could discuss the advantages and disadvantages of cycling as an alternative to cars, buses and trains. If students believe the pros outweigh the cons then they could design persuasive posters encouraging more people to cycle. Students could also share their own opinions and experiences of cycling.

Alternatively, this clip could lead to discussions and learning on cycle safety. Students could be challenged to create a new ad campaign on cycle safety to go out across the nation. They could be organised into teams who will have to pitch and compete against one another to win the bid. Students could look at previous ad campaigns, research cycle safety rules and prepare their bid presentation.
