In tonight's late kick-off, second-placed West Brom have a chance to move within one point of leaders Leeds and - most crucially - five points clear of third-placed Brentford.

However, to do that they'll need to win away at a Sheffield Wednesday side who impressed with a win at Ashton Gate on Sunday.

Birmingham - who are 2-0 down at home for the second time in four days - go close to halving the deficit, but Kristian Pedersen heads wide from Jeremie Bela's corner.

Bristol City have started brightly since the break, as they look to revive their play-off bid. They've winless in their past four league away games.

Meanwhile, the second half has got going at the City Ground. Can Nottingham Forest move closer to the automatic promotion spots?

But Lee Camp saves this one from Karlan Grant. It's an excellent, one-handed stop to Camp's left.

Gary Gardner pulls down Christopher Schindler in the box and Huddersfield have a second penalty of this game.

Well what an interesting experience this is.

Other than reporting on a nondescript, weather-threatened fourth day of a few County Championship cricket matches down the years, I’ve never reported from a near empty stadium before.

I was half prepared for this, having covered a few Coventry City games here earlier this season, for which they closed the home Tilton End and the old Main Stand, where Blues’ quaint old press box is. But seeing a serious game of football played out in front of just two Cowley brothers and a few hacks is just plain weird!

The thing that gets you most is the silence, punctuated by the occasional bursts of choice language. There are words I’ve heard tonight that I can’t report. Ones I’ve only ever heard shouted from the terraces before!

Sheffield Wednesday make two changes from the side that won at Bristol City, with Moses Odubajo and Adam Reach coming back into the starting line-up.

West Brom head coach Slaven Bilic promised changes after their defeat by Brenford - and there are five of them.

Captain Jake Livermore, Darnell Furlong, Semi Ajayi, Jake Livermore, Matt Phillips and Hal Robson-Kanu are all out and replaced by Dara O’Shea, Kyle Bartley, Rekeem Harper, Filip Krovinović and Charlie Austin.

Sheff Wed XI: Wildsmith, Palmer, Iorfa, Odubajo, Murphy, Harris, Luongo, Bannan, Reach, Rhodes, Wickham

Time is up for Preston this evening. It's five wins in a row for Derby. What a run they're on at the moment.

The Rams go above Preston in to seventh, three points above North End and one behind sixth-placed Cardiff.

It's a huge result in the race for the play-offs.

In the final minute of stoppage time, Preston win a corner and send keeper Declan Rudd up for it...

And he gets a head to it! But he heads over the bar. That would have been quite a story. Time is now surely up.

Goodness me, Max Bird almost scores for Derby from about 50 yards out. He's near the halfway line!

He catches Declan Rudd off his line... but Bird's spectacular effort goes wide.

There are seconds to go and the ball is at the wrong end of the pitch, from Preston fans' point of view.

Derby wind down the clock a bit further in stoppage time as goalscorer Wayne Rooney comes off for a rest.

His 18th-minute free-kick is this game's only goal.

Scott Malone comes on for him.

Preston have had just one effort on target all night. It's not been their day. Three minutes of stoppage time remain.

There'll be six minutes of stoppage time at the end of the game at Preston, where Derby are closing in on a huge win that would take them up to seventh.
