Jack Braden

Played by Luke Allen-Gale

JACK BRADEN: is a young man with explosive frustration inside him. He has his father's boxing talent and plans to get the light heavy-weight title that always alluded Tiger Braden. The biggest obstacle to his achieving this is his emotional response to any given situation. He can never keep a cool head. Another big obstacle to a flourishing boxing career is the army. Jack didn't answer his call-up after the war and went on the run with his best mate, a wide boy called Bobby Brown. MPs from the army occasionally turned up looking for him, but three years on he's hoping the army has forgotten all about him so he can get on and box.

Someone's gonna end up topping him.
Jack Braden

His best hope of getting a shot at a title fight is through the 'big-time' gangster Billy Hill. But emotion gets in the way when Jack resents the fact that his mother Gracie has taken up with Billy and invited him back into the family home on his release from prison. The smart thing to do, his mum advises him, is to forget that and simply use Billy to get what he wants. Jack can't bear the thought of any replacing his hero, Tiger Braden. When things go wrong and the army claims him, Jack becomes bitter and angry and plunges into crime.
