In the long aftermath of the First World War, 30-year-old Sarah Burton (Maxwell Martin) returns to Yorkshire from London to become the headmistress of a struggling high school for girls.

Women In Love

Rosamund Pike, Rachael Stirling, Rory Kinnear and Joseph Mawle star in Women In Love, a compelling new two-part drama by William Ivory (Faith, A Thing Called Love, Common As Muck).

Based on two novels by DH Lawrence – The Rainbow and Women In Love – which Lawrence originally intended to publish as one, Ivory has melded the books together in line with the author's original vision as part of ±«Óãtv Four's new Modern Love Season.

Women In Love charts the lives and loves of two sisters, Ursula (Stirling) and Gudrun Brangwen (Pike), viewed chiefly through their relationships with two friends Rupert Birkin (Kinnear) and Gerald Crich (Mawle). As the two relationships intensify the couples leave the Midlands and go abroad together, leading to conflict and tragedy.

The cast also includes Saskia Reeves as Ursula and Gudrun's mother, Anna; Ben Daniels as Anna's husband Will; and Olivia Grant as Hermione.

±«Óãtv Four's new Modern Love Season, exploring love and sexuality in 20th-century literature, will also include Amanda Coe's adaptation of John Braine's novel Room At The Top.

An ambitious two-part adaptation for ±«Óãtv Two sees writer Gwyneth Hughes (Five Days, Miss Austen Regrets) finishing Charles Dickens's final novel Edwin Drood.

The mystery novel was left uncompleted at the time of Dickens's death, and its ending remains unknown. Alongside Great Expectations, this will form part of the author's bicentenary celebrations on the ±«Óãtv.

Frankenstein's Wedding … Live In Leeds

±«Óãtv THREE

For one night only, in March 2011, the city of Leeds plays host to a spectacular live TV event.

This one-off live broadcast features the marriage of scientist Victor Frankenstein and his bride-to-be, Elizabeth Lavenza, an ambitious music and drama event that explores Mary Shelley's iconic story through contemporary performance and cutting-edge musical content.

Set against the Gothic magnificence of Kirkstall Abbey, Leeds, this bold reimaging of the much-loved masterpiece brings the passion, emotion and horror of the classic tale to a live audience.

Focusing on the lavish wedding of Victor and his childhood sweetheart, it stays true to the ethical and scientific themes while bursting open the classic text, fusing it with live drama and contemporary dance to bring a unique viewing experience for TV viewers at home and the audience in the Abbey itself.

In an original take on audience participation, the thousands present will be invited to attend the event in their best wedding outfits and play a real role as guests.

A wide range of outreach activities are also planned in the lead up to the event.
