±«Óãtv Children's is committed to celebrating the best children's literature; encouraging young people to read and bringing the best children's stories to life on screen.

The Blue Peter Book Awards aim to showcase the best contemporary children's literature and is one of only two book prizes where children pick the winners. This year's winners will be revealed in the run-up to World Book Day in early March.

Online the Blue Peter Book Club recommends three books for children each month with free extracts of chapters to get them started along with interviews with leading authors such as Rick Riordan and Cressida Cowell.

Some of C±«Óãtv's most popular shows are also based on children's books, including Tracy Beaker Returns and Horrible Histories, both of which return for new series in 2011.

We also bring the best children's literature to life on screen. Next month CBeebies is launching a new series, Rastamouse, based on the popular books by Genevieve Webster and Michael De Souza, and Octonauts, based on the richly imaginative books by design team Meomi, returns with a new series to delight our youngest audiences.

Driver Dan's Story Train continues to encourage young readers to enjoy books and Tinga Tinga Tales is also back for a new series which, as well as bringing oral storytelling to screen, is involved in philanthropic book distribution and story activities in African schools and communities.

And of course ±«Óãtv Bedtime Stories continue to delight children and parents alike with upcoming readers including Sheila Hancock, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Meera Syal and Kimberley Walsh.
