New Lanark, New Society

The story of New Lanark is really the story of one man, Robert Owen, and his attempt to transform society for the better. Perhaps ultimately, it is a tale of the right man being in the right place, but at the wrong time. Although the ideas shaped at New Lanark did not gain acceptance in the time Owen spent there, they do constitute the founding blocks of much that we take for granted today in terms of industrial relations, education and housing.
