Site Information
UK Legacies is the local history website from the ±«Óãtv, but a history website with a difference. The aim is to scrutinise the same UK history that you can find in any book or website, but to show how this history unfolds across every locality of the UK.

National histories are often guilty of airbrushing over our local identities in an attempt to simplify our past. Legacies’ aim is to show the UK's past in all its wonderful diversity.

The themes we’ve covered on UK Legacies are:

Architectural Heritage: see how buildings have been shaped by our history and discover which buildings personify certain areas.

Immigration and Emigration: discover the migration of peoples all over the UK which has come to form today’s society.

Local Legends: learn of the individuals who are famous to an area, from rouges to heroes we show you how people become legends.

Work: every town has an industry or occupation at the heart of it, here we show you the impact those jobs have had on the individuals who perform them.

We’ve also got a selection of stories written by you. The Your Stories section contain stories from all over the country, including many from Tyne and Wear, written by school children about the work their parents or grandparents did at 21.

Unfortunately the Legacies website is now a static site, however if you need to contact someone about it you can do so by writing to the department at UK Legacies, Rm 133, ±«Óãtv Broadcasting House, Queen Margaret Drive, Glasgow, G12 8DG.
