These short video dramatisations introduce the stories of ten children who grew up and changed the world. These short films are taken from the original ±«Óãtv series, True Stories.

Rosa Parks 

Rosa Parks tells the story of her life, showing how her refusal to give up her seat to a white person on a segregated bus changed the rules of American society, and led towards equality and justice for everyone, whatever the colour of their skin.

Harriet Tubman

Harriet Tubman tells the story of her life and how she escaped slavery. Told in the first person, and brought to life with a mix of drama, movement, music and animation, the story begins when Harriet was a child.

The Newsround website has a collection of news articles, informative videos and interviews about Black History Month. 

Why is black British history so important? 

Campaign groups and charities like The Black Curriculum and Fill in the Blanks have also spoken out on the importance of black history being taught in schools. These campaigners believe all children and young people need to learn about the important roles black people have played throughout British history and the many contributions they have made to society today.
