British women at war, 1914-1918 (subtitled)

Description

Women were required to make a significant contribution during World War I. As more men left for combat, women stepped in to take over ‘men’s work’. The government used propaganda films to encourage them to work in the farms and factories.

Classroom Ideas

Students can make a spider diagram showing the types of work that women took over from men during the war, and explain why these tasks were important to the war effort.
