The introduction of tanks into WW1 warfare

Description

Tanks were invented in Britain. Historian Dan Snow describes the earliest versions and charts how they developed and were increasingly used in battle during WW1. We hear how intrigued the British public were to see a film in 1915 showing the tanks in use during the Battle of the Ancre.

Could be used to give an introduction to the contribution made by tanks in WW1 and how they changed the nature of battle and whether or not they shaped the final outcome of the war. This clip could be used in conjunction with ‘How did Britain move beyond trench warfare in WW1?’
