Meet the MSP

Description

Kris Sinclair is 19, a youth worker and a member of the Scottish Youth Parliament. He sees the SNP proposal to raise the minimum age to buy alcohol to 21 as discriminatory, penalising all young people because of the behaviour of a minority. He raises his concerns with his MSP, Sandra White. She cites a pilot study in Falkirk that resulted in a major drop in antisocial behaviour. Kris ends by stating that how the proposal progresses could change his voting behaviour.

Classroom Ideas

Students could discuss what issues are important to them. How do they decide the issues that would alter their vote? What alternative measures could be taken to combat alcohol abuse and antisocial behaviour? This clip would work with either a study of how proposed laws are influenced and passed through parliament, or health and social issues on alcohol.
