Higher PE - Describe questions

Describe questions ask you to provide simple details about an aspect of the course. You should:

  • make short and sharp statements
  • refer to what, who, where, when and how in your answer
When answering a Describe question, you should consider: who, what, where, when and how.

By referring to what, who, where, when and how in your answer, you paint a picture of a method or approach and describe how it was completed in chronological order. A describe answer should be so clear that someone with no knowledge of the course could use your answer to set up this method and carry it out successfully.

Reasoning

It is important to be aware of what not to do when answering describe questions.

  • at no point should you provide the why of a method or approach
  • never provide reasoning or give value judgements such as this meant… or this was good because…

Make a short statement on each of the what, who, where, when and how and aim to pick up one mark per sentence
