Ayoze Perez bursts into the box and pulls it across to Patson Daka, who finds Harvey Barnes, six yards out at the back post. This looks for all the world a goal but David Ospina is quickly off his line and saves the ball into the side-netting.

Victor Osimhen runs in behind Leicester's defence but the ball runs over the byeline. The hosts haven't got going at all.

Napoli have a chance within a couple of minutes. Victor Osimhen blasts a shot in from outside the box which Kasper Schmeichel parries. The keeper is just about to get the rebound when Jannik Vestergaard boots it away.

Good atmosphere and two good teams going head to head. The game begins.

Napoli have been in the Champions League in four of the previous five seasons.

But boss Luciano Spalletti, who replaced Gennaro Gattuso in the summer, says they will respect the Europa League.

"It is the bicycle we have dreamt of peddling," he said.

"The main thing is being credible with the players. We have spent two months trying to find something attractive and something which will stimulate the players so they can give the maximum they can when they are wearing a Napoli shirt.

"Players shouldn't take this as a lower level of football. They still need to achieve the highest level.

"It's not like clicking a switch, though, you have to do something every day and work at it. It's maximum respect and desire to obtain the best result in this competition."

West Ham United

Former West Ham forward Carlton Cole on BT Sport: "West Ham treated it like a Premier League game.

"I expected more from Dinamo Zagreb but West Ham nullified everything they threw at them. Everything went to plan for West Ham and David Moyes will be delighted.

"Declan Rice showed power, pace and vision for the second and then went right through the legs of the goalkeeper."

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham goalscorer Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg on BT Sport: "It is what we got, we will build on that, it is not what we came for, we came for three points.

"But respect to Rennes and the performance, they fought well and invested a lot. We dominated some parts of the second half and were trying our best to push for the goal, but at some points were a little bit on the back foot.

"We got a point and it is something to build on but also something to improve on."

Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel: "I'm hoping for another special night. They are a very good side who are dangerous. The team have been working hard on the pitch to go up against them.

"It's never been our approach to look at others, we look at ourselves more than anything. When I look at our dressing room I have every reason to be supremely confident.

"There are top-class sides in this competition and others coming in from the Champions League. You can't always say [who the favourites are] because you don't know who is going to be coming into the competition."

Leicester are fourth-favourites to win the Europa League in a list that includes teams currently competing in the Champions League.

Atletico Madrid are already second-favourites.

Leicester are in Europe for only the sixth time in their history, with three of those coming since 2016.

They have never faced an Italian team in European competition before.

But they have played Italian sides four times in competitive games. In June 1972 in the Anglo-Italian Cup they lost away to Cagliari and Atalanta - and then beat both sides at home.

In all major European competition, Napoli are one of only four teams to play 10 or more away games in England without winning (10 games), after Anderlecht (17), Dynamo Kyiv (15) and Club Bruges (12).

Napoli are set to face an English side for the 21st time, with Leicester the seventh different one.

Leicester progressed from the Europa League group stage last season - but then lost to Slavia Prague in the next round.

"My idea last year was to finish top of the group and we were able to do that," Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers said.

"Whichever team we play, I’ll always feel confident. Now with players coming back to fitness, we brought in some players to help with depth and hopefully we can see that between now and Christmas.

"It’s such an important period because of the proximity of games. You're going to need your players.

"Whichever team I put out, I look to get a positive result. We’ve been unfortunate in the last couple of seasons, but hopefully, touch wood, we get the fitness and that little bit of luck you need."

Jonny Evans returns for Leicester City, replacing Caglar Soyuncu in defence, while summer signings Patson Daka and Boubakary Soumare are handed their first starts.

Ayoze Perez and Kelechi Iheanacho also come into the side.

Youri Tielemans, James Maddison, Jamie Vardy and Marc Albrighton are the ones to drop out.
