For the second week in a row, it's Michael van Gerwen walking away with the trophy - he's made a fine start to his title defence.

Luke Littler and Luke Humphries will be hoping to get their first night win but MVG is the man to beat. He'll be going for three in a row.

It's been a cracking opening day of action at the World Senior Darts Championship at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet.

It continues on Friday with the other first-round matches before the last 16 on Saturday and conclusion of the tournament on Sunday.

Here's Friday's schedule, including 16-time World champion Phil 'The Power' Taylor:

Three nights down and this is how the Premier League table is looking.

After two weekly wins, Michael van Gerwen has already got a bit of a lead at the top but it is tightly bunched behind him.

Luke Humphries is into the top four after making his first final but Nathan Aspinall and Peter Wright remain winless and pointless at the bottom.

There are another 13 weeks for them to turn things around, though.

Winner of night three Michael van Gerwen, speaking to Sky Sports: "I won tonight and I didn't even play well, that's a good thing. You could see I had a lot of problems. Ending on a double today was good.

"Last year I said to myself I want to win so many weeks, I want a certain number of points. This year I do it different. I play week by week. No targets now. There's been a lot of pressure on my shoulders.

"It's important, you can see by my reaction. You're playing against the best players in the world."

"I'm the trophy man," says Michael van Gerwen to conclude his post-match interview on Sky Sports that also included some Disneyland chat.

Tops for the match and MVG makes no mistake.

Another last-leg decider in a final and the reigning Premier League champion comes through once more.

Luke Humphries is not going down without a fight.

He bounces back brilliantly and then takes out 121 with a real swagger.

MVG will have the darts for the decider.

He needs a big visit with Luke Humphries on a finish, hits a 180 and then takes out 65 in two darts.

The Dutchman is one leg from a second weekly win in a row.

Michael van Gerwen is setting about making Luke Humphries pay for those missed doubles in the last leg.

The world champion misses a dart at bull to win this one and Mighty Mike hits double 12 at the third attempt to draw level again.

Fantastic leg all-round!

Luke Humphries starts with a 180 and wraps it up with a double 18.

A 10-darter and it's three legs on the spin for the world number one.

He took his time after giving himself a big lead in the leg but Luke Humphries breaks.

Michael van Gerwen was nowhere when the world champion got down to a finish.

But he was closing in by the time, Humphries finally hit tops.

Luke Humphries misses a couple of darts at double but Michael van Gerwen is never close enough to punish him.

Double five for Humphries and we're all square again.

Michael van Gerwen was cruising but a poor couple of visits, including a bounce out, lets Luke Humphries in.

He needs the 98 that MVG had just taken out but misses two darts at double 19 for the break.

Mighty Mike returns to the oche and effortlessly hits double top.

Superb from Michael van Gerwen.

He takes out 98 brilliantly - 20, double 19, tops.

The early signs are good for this final!

Average on the night is about a nine point difference favouring Luke Humphries.

Michael van Gerwen would have known he needed to step it up in this final.

He does, right up until he gets to a double. Three missed darts at double six allow Luke Humphries to sneak in.

Left with tops, he misses inside but gets double 10 at the second attempt.
