Meet Nikita Kanda

Wherever, whenever, Nikita Kanda is all set for Strictly 2023

She plays the anthems on the airwaves and now she’s about to get down to them on Strictly!

Nikita Kanda may be more at home on the radio, but now she’s stepping out onto the shiny floors of the Strictly Ballroom. Born in Birmingham, Nikita grew up with her mother and sister in Feltham, West London. Finding her passion for performing, she took part in theatre productions of The Wiz, Bugsy Malone, Annie and Pocahontas.

Achieving a degree in Film and Screen Media, she discovered her love for broadcasting, and became determined to take on the role of being a presenter full time. After graduating from university, she went on to present on Zee TV, an Indian entertainment channel, before securing the drivetime show on Asian Star 101.6FM in the spring of 2019.

After five years of working in TV and local radio, Nikita’s big breakthrough came when she joined the presenting team of the ±«Óãtv Asian Network in March 2021, and by November 2021, she won the Silver APA award for presenting the Saturday Lunchtime Show.

From July 2022, she began covering on the Asian Network Breakfast show and after six months, she became the show’s permanent host. Taking the helm on the Asian Network Certified show, she hosts another hour of radio daily, playing some of the biggest hits in R&B, Bhangra, Hip-Hop and Bollywood, all of which earned her a nomination for Presenter of the Year at the 2022 Asian Media Awards.

Her confidence as a presenter surpasses the airwaves too, hosting events for the Asian Network’s summer festivals, she’s presented live events in front of 75,000 people. In addition to, reporting segments on The One Show, fronting a range of topics including government support for female sports.

Now it’s time for Nikita to hang up her headphones and slip on her dancing shoes, as she explores the wonderful world of Strictly!
