Viking longship design

How were Viking longships made and how did the ships' design and materials enable the Vikings to travel far from home? Longships were handmade, trees were chopped down for planks and plaited sheep wool and wax made sails strong and waterproof. The keel’s design kept the ship stable, the sails allowed the Vikings to stop rowing and let the wind do the work and the ship was usually made of oak, a strong wood that does not warp.
