Viking crannogs

A Viking explains what a crannog is to a Saxon. Crannogs were man-made islands, surrounded by water and a fence. Many tribes lived in crannogs, to protect themselves from invaders. They were made out of whatever material was available locally, and houses were built on top. The Vikings used them in settlements in Scotland and Ireland. Crannogs were also places where Vikings worked at trades like metalworking and weaving.
