Scotland gets over £4.9million in grants from Children in Need in 2010

±«Óãtv Children in Need have announced their final grant allocation for this year – with over £4.9million awarded to 219 projects across Scotland in 2010.

All the Children in Need grant allocations for this year have been made possible thanks to the fantastic efforts of fundraisers across the UK who helped to raise a record breaking £39million at the 2009 Appeal, which has helped to change the lives of the most disadvantaged young people right here in the UK.

One of the newly awarded projects in Scotland is Cancer Link Aberdeen & North who are receiving a grant of £89,719 which will provide one-to-one support and activities to young people affected by cancer to help address their feelings of isolation and improve their self confidence.

Moorpark Youth Centre in Paisley is another newly awarded project having received a grant of £10,000 as part of Children in Need's small grant programme. This programme will help pay for a drop-in service for disadvantaged young people who face social challenges in their lives and will offer advice on a number of subjects including drug awareness.

With the 2010 Appeal just around the corner on November 19, the public are being asked to join in and "show their spots" to help raise lots for ±«Óãtv Children in Need. This could be as easy as holding a spotty fashion show or sponsoring the boss to wear spots for the day. Every penny donated to the appeal will go directly to some of the most disadvantaged children and young people across the UK and will make a real difference.

Fraser Falconer, Head of ±«Óãtv Children in Need in Scotland, says: "Our amazing fundraisers and supporters have made it possible for us to change lots of young lives over the last 12 months and we know that there are many more children and young people right here in the UK who need our help and hope that this year's appeal will be the biggest and best ever!"

See the for a list of the 37 August 2010 grants throughout Scotland, in Alness, Ardrossan, Bo'ness, Clydebank, Coldstream, Cowdenbeath, Cumnock, Denny, Dumbarton, Dumfries, Dundee, Edinburgh, Falkirk, Glasgow, Gourock, Hamilton, Inverness, Irvine, Jedburgh, Lochgelly, Lockerbie, Paisley, Peebles, Perth, Port Glasgow, Selkirk, St Andrews and Stirling.
