Once again football fever takes over the airwaves as ±«Óãtv Radio 5 Live immerses itself in Euro 2008.

Every kick of every game can be heard on the network – and its sister station, ±«Óãtv 5 Live Sports Extra, when matches clash – and throughout the day in the scheduled programmes there will be interviews, news, gossip, comment, blogs and reaction from Austria and Switzerland, building up to the games themselves and capturing the spirit and atmosphere of European football's premier international event.

"There's going to be huge interest in the tournament even without home nation involvement," explains 5 Live's Euro 2008 football producer Matthew Allen. "So we wanted to reflect that properly and give listeners the service they'd expect for such a massive tournament."

The last time there was no British interest in a major football tournament was the 1994 World Cup and consequently 5 Live didn't broadcast every game from that tournament.

The station was inundated with calls from listeners who wanted to hear the matches and so, with interest in football even greater these days and with so many players taking part based in the English or Scottish Premier Leagues or familiar to fans from Champions League and UEFA Cup matches, this time 5 Live is giving it the usual in-depth and comprehensive coverage.

All the games will be broadcast live on 5 Live, with the second match on 5 Live Sports Extra when there's a clash in the final group stage games. The matches can swap networks if the 5 Live Sports Extra one should suddenly become more crucial.

Two teams provide coverage – one based in Austria and one in Switzerland.
Ìý
John Murray, Ian Brown, Simon Brotherton and Ian Dennis are the commentary team in Austria, with expert analysis provided by Pat Nevin and two former England coaches Graham Taylor and Steve McClaren.

In Switzerland, Alan Green, Mike Ingham, Darren Fletcher and Conor McNamara provide commentary, with Chris Waddle, Jan Molby and Stan Collymore providing the insight and analysis.

In addition, 5 Live Sport will present live from six games. Mark Pougatch will be there for the big kick-off in Basle at the very first game, Switzerland v Czech Republic at 5.00pm on Saturday 7 June, as well as Sweden v Spain at 5.00pm on Saturday 14 June in Innsbruck.

He will start the programmes earlier in the day out and about mingling with the fans and soaking up the atmosphere before heading into the stadium for the game.

Mark Saggers has a similar role for the hotly anticipated World Cup Final "rematch" between France and Italy on Tuesday 17 June in Zurich at 7.45pm, as well as for the semi-finals in Basle on Wednesday 25 June and in Vienna on Thursday 26 June and the final, in Vienna again, on Sunday 29 June.

Two roving reporters – Jacqui Oatley in Austria and Mike Sewell in Switzerland – will be out and about throughout the tournament, covering press conferences, news stories, fan reactions and the like, for reports to be fed into 5 Live throughout the day to fully immerse the network in Euro 2008 fervour, from the first kick to the last.
