Saltaire: A successful industrial township

In the midst of the Industrial Revolution, it was the ambition of Bradford’s Mayor, Titus Salt, to build a community:

“that would enjoy the beauties of the neighbourhood, and who would be a well fed, contented, and happy body of operatives…..nothing should be spared to render the dwellings of the operatives a pattern to the country”.

The result was Saltaire, a model industrial community following in the footsteps of Robert Owen’s New Lanark. More...
