Learn how to cut up a mango with this easy video guide. Try our two techniques for removing the mango from the hard pit, and chopping it into cubes for salads, smoothies or desserts.

To make the mango easier to hold, cut a thin slice off the bottom so you have a flat side to rest it on.

Slice vertically down the length of the mango about a quarter of an inch from the stem. If you hit the hard pit, just move the knife a little further away from the midline and slice down again. This will give you one fleshy cheek. Do the same with the other side.

For the hedgehog technique, put the mango half, skin side down, onto a chopping board and use the tip of a knife to cut a criss-cross pattern into the flesh. Make sure not to cut through the skin.

Turn the halves inside out to reveal the mango cubes. You can pick them with your fingers, or carefully slice with a knife.

For the glass technique, take a water glass and scoop out the flesh, getting as close to the skin as you can without breaking it. Chop the mango into cubes.
