Kirsty Young washed up on our shore today...

Chris Evans | 11:49 UK time, Friday, 27 January 2012

...and brought with her tales of Desert Island Discs, seventy years old this week.

Sir David Attenborough is The Island's anniversary guest on Sunday at 11.15am, sure to be riveting. And what of the other three and a half thousand shipwreckees that have experienced a similar fate ? Well, you can hear five hundred of them again via the ±«Óãtv Radio website. I'm going there right now to see if David Hockney's is one of them. I know for definite he's been on !

Oh no, I've just remembered, I have to go to The One Show. I'll do it later instead or tomorrow perhaps.

Keep smiling friendlies. We do it all again on the wireless, Monday at half six. Bring on 500 Words 2012 !!!

Peace And Love.

Hiya Chris: didn't get to hear Kirsty this morning, but I will listen to that over the weekend. I try to catch DID every week - terrific programme. I will be watching the One Show tonight - it took me a while to "get it", but I definitely do get it now!

    Good afternoon,

I'm back, I know you hadn't noticed I was away. Sorry I missed Kirsty this morning, I think she would have been quite interesting. All this talk of DID has made me want to listen to it now, I will need to give it a go.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

    Hello CE & Everyone.

I heard Kirsty this morning Chris and I liked her choice of songs especially I Am I Said by Neil Diamond. I wonder if he's done DID? I know that you have Chris and I'm off to listen soon.

I remember Desert Island Discs being on the radio back in the days before we had television. Yes! I'm that old! But I'm not nearly as old as DID!

    Afternoon,

I have to admit I didn't listen today, or yesterday, or the day before. There's cricket on LW you know, old boy!
I also have to say that the music is starting to sound a bit like Simon Mayo's Show - where's Muse etc?
Still, you and Moira after the 7.30 news is still THE best bit of the show for me!

It's beautiful here today - champagne clear skies and bright bright sun!

I'm off to the dogs tonight so who knows; this time tomorrow - I could be a millionaire!!

Kirsty was a lovley guest this morning, I could listen to her read the phone book to be honest! Her voice is so rich and warm!

Chris, i know you have done DID but that was so long ago, I think you are a different person now. I wonder how many of your choices would be the same?

    Afternoon peeples

I've never listened to DID but I will certainly try to hunt out CLPs one from 2005.

Wowser, I've been a busy bunny today: I was at a breakfast network doooodah at half seven in the a.m (ergo missing CLP and Ms Young), then I went to see someone about some work (huzzah!) and then hair cut and colour (feels much, much better Sezza!), and then the weekly shop ..... and now home. Phew!

Yoga last night was blimmin' hard work - all core and legs. Subsequently today, standing up/getting out of the car/walking up and down stairs has heard some bizarre yelpy kind of noises emanating from within.

Right, time to errrrrm ....... maybe watch Masterchef before my Nic gets home!

Gail: au contraire! I certainly did miss you, but I know that sometimes you just "lurk" when you think you have nothing to say. Just for the record, I always love seeing your posts here. xx

Maddy: my lovely daddy bought me "I am ... I said" when I was just a wee chicken. I had no idea what it meant, but he loved it and every single time I hear it, I think of him. I asked him to buy me something from the "Top Ten" and that was what he bought!

Nic: I agree absolutely - the 7.30 chat with Chris and Moira is always fantastic. Moira is just so honest, and Chris is a genius at getting information out of her!

Sezza: good luck at "the dogs". You are going to have a brilliant evening, I am sure!

Cheryl: oooh, I wish I was home watching Masterchef!

Hello all, just popping in to say hi, I have been lurking though!

Enjoyed hearing Kirsty Young this morning, though I didn't hear much. I listened to DID on Sunday, with Annie Lennox, which was truly excellent. I will definitely catch up with Sir David Attenborough on Sunday. I have encountered Sir David before, he once said hello to me when he visited my place of work for a gallery opening!

Just watching Rothiemurchus just now, it looks stunning.

Right, Ive got a disaster on my hands today. The only pair of shoes I own that dont dig into my achilies scar have a hole in :-( so I now need to find a replacement pair. I hate shopping, and shoes hurt my ankle as most are really hard around that part of the shoe so I may be some time. So, I'm setting off now and will be some time.

Annie ,sorry that I missed the one show last night ,was stuck over the stove cooking meat balls ,but Ill watch it on I play as it does look a rather stunning place to see.
And by the way your meal for today sound delicious and I'm sure that the little ones will be on their very best behaviour , it's the chocolate that sends them wild hehe as you know and you also know whats the best time to feed them that ...just before they're going out the door.

Sezza ,looking forward to your verdict on the dogs ,we have a dog track in Portsmouth and still never been ,but it's supposed to be a good night .

Well I don't know what sort of weather you have where you are ,but here we have a beautiful sunny day and wall to wall blue but it is a bit on the cool side.
But I'm sitting here with a nice hot cup of tea ,hot buttered toast ,and Saturday Kitchen ,what more could you ask for eh!!!

Hi to everyone else and hope that you're all well. so enjoy your day and take care out there apparently the roads might be icy.

    'Lo everybody!

So, all birthdays are going well!

Had such a good time with at the dogs last night. I didn't think it was going to be such a civilised affair! We had a table inside with an excellent view, nice people bringing us food and drink and a very nice man taking our bets and bringing us our (very few) winnings

Brilliant night out. Thanks for telling me to go!

Then, this morning, boy2 went to the cinema with his friends and we met him and went to a American Diner style restaurant that has just opened!

Stuffed now so an hour on the sofa before the next taxi run!

    morning peeps .... remember me?
Sorry I have been out of circulation for so long. I have been lurking and trying to catch up when I get the chance - often just 10 mins every couple of days while eating my lunch.

There are too many things to comment on so I will cover all with hugs to those in need and well done to the achievers.
However I do have to ask ... Debs how did the shoe hunt go?
I have a real problem with shoes, Can't really wear anything with a heel so it's flats for work and play, so almost always trousers for me. I do opt for the occasional skirt in the summer when I can get away with flat flip-flops.

I am suffering with 3 .... yes 3 corns on my little and next toe on my left foot at the mo, Flippin painful, I can tell you.

Work is busy and outside of work, even busier.

I have drama rehearsals Monday and Wednesday plus an extra on either a Saturday or Sunday morning (this weeks was yesterday). The play is really coming on and I am loving the part I play - lots of emotions to go through.

Tuesdays are Community Choir. What a buzz that is!! We were recorded for a snippet on ±«Óãtv Radio Wales.

g***le wxmchoir and you can see and hear us plus there is a link to the bit on ±«Óãtv radio.

This morning I have two loaves proving. A brown loaf plus an apricot and walnut one.
Have been doing my chores - washing, vacuuming and baking to Richard Allinson on i-player.

    Cuppa now, I reckon.

Crumpy ,nice to see you and to see you busy ,you know where to come for some R+R if needed. And yes Debs did you get your shoes??

And did I just get a glimpse of a fairy flying by??

Right off to finish chores .Take care ..Bids.xxx.

Wow Crumpy no wonder you dont have time to blog! As for shoes, I found one pair that had a soft back to the heel - ONE PAIR!!!! I seriously cannot even put a "normal" shoe on anymore as the back of the heel curves directly onto the bit of the tendon that snapped - nearly 2 years on!

And MTF - Wowser - thank you!!!! - for those who want to know I have received a pot of the fairys most delish sevile marmalade :-D

Right, all massaged up so it must be time to get roasting - Chrissie, not done this for a while, but tell MrS when you are on here tomorrow, its chicken ;-)

Okeys might catch you later - started watching the midwife last night and really enjoyed it, not sure how I will feel about the addition of miranda though as she really doesnt do it for me!

    Happy Sunday Everyone.

Just lurking today but I have to come in here with a bit of advertising. I'm only trying to be helpful so don't moderate me Mods:)

Debs & Crumpy-I always had problems trying to find comfortable shoes as I have long thin feet, it was always either heel rubbing causing blisters or toes squashed causing corns or cramp.

Then I discovered The Shoe Tail*r. They do extra widths and also calf widths in boots.

I order online and have never had to return anything.

    Afternoon you beauties!

    Debs @#25 - yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!

We had a fab day yesterday: spent the afternoon in Stafford, mooching round the shops, investing in some stationery by that lovely lady who made my matching purse and handbag ... y'know, CK .... flowery, pretty stuff. Also bought a new Bhudda to add to my collection, we had a smashing pub meal (very rare rump steak - to die for!) and then ....

    WE SAW PUPPIES!!!

    Lots and lots of puppies.

All very cute. Very cuddly. Smelling like weetabix and warm milk.

Litter #1 was born on Christmas Day, so 5 weeks old. Cuddles were had, oooohs and aaaaahs exchanged, then we moved on to litter #2 - born on New Year's Day, so 4 weeks old and a wee bit tinier.

    And we fell in love.

All three of us (me, Nic and MiniNic) had a cuddle and a hold and chitchat and a snuzzle muzzle. Mummy dog was very loving but not overly protective (she's an old hand at it, apparently!) and daddy dog was a splendid large brown Springer with bright eyes. They're proper breeders and all KC registered with pedigree parents, grand-parents etc for about 6 generations, and we've put our deposit down on a little boy who will be moving in with us on 9th March, when we get back from our holiday. We'll be visiting him again in 2 weeks time so we can get to know him and he can get to know us. And I now need to start looking at doggie accessories, kennel crate etc.

    We're soooooooooooooooooooo excited!

I spoke to my mum this morning in India (thanks to the miracle of Skype) and all she had to say on the puppy issue was "you're mad". Nice!

Right, off to g**gle puppy stuff.

Have the rest of a fantastic weekend, and I'll see you all tomorrow afternoon.

    Muchos amore.

    Hello!

Listened to DID this morning (through a level of small boy noise), Sir David is a legend and has an amazing life!

Deevs - 'citing bout the puppy, not sure I could have a pup tho - my grumpy old mutt can be trouble enough!

Thanks for the concern over t'other, I don't think he realised how bad it could have been till the following day when he looked at the crumpled back door and said 'Um, I'm glad that isn't the drivers door'! Bless! The car has been seen by the 'approved' garage, and yep we need a new door!! Only thing is they can't say when and how long it'll take...........

T'other has just taken the the boy to look for replacement tent poles as a substitute for his friend coming over (easily pleased my son!) as she was going out......we had proper broken hearted tears over it! But he then asked to put the tent up inside like we did after we had been camping with my nephew.........that was our 'honeymoon' camping trip 2.5 years ago! He never seems to forget anything!

Decisions have been taken over the move, and we going to try to be on our way in 6 weeks (depending on the car and removal companies).......eeekkkkkk! It may mean staying with my mum for a couple of weeks, but that'll be ok, won't it??

Right better get on with the roast lamb while the house is quiet

Sezza , I have finished that book already . It was great thanks, i sat in bed yesterday morning and finished it off. Mind you, it nearly finished me off, I had a right good old sob ! Soo , what can i read in Feb please ?, I've decided to try and do a book a month .

I am in charge of tonight's meal. Mr MC has gone to see a friend in hozzy, so i said I would get the "roast cooked". So far so good , the meat ,duly wrapped in tinfoil has gone in at 3.30 as per his instructions . Just working myself up to remember when to do the veg , I hope i dont snooze off ..................

Back to work for a rest tomorrow , its been non stop here, but it feels good to tick things off the list (the list that was on my new years resolution list , not to make lists ) . Enjoy the rest of your Sundays .

Deevs - wowser!!!!! How exciting. Now I'm not the best puppy discipliner in world and there are people on here who know wayyyyyyyyyyy more than me, but 2 things I'd wished I done:
Got doggies used to a "crate" as a bed, my friends have done this and can leave them happily in posh hotel rooms no worries - my tia in any strange room = wee
Also next door have - dont ask me how - a special little bit of grass with a small fence around it that is the toilet area - much easier for keeping the rest of the grass you know what free!

MC - oi! wake up - time to chuck some spuds int oven and get veggies prepped ready for eat minus 10mins :-)

Hey Eb, hope the indoor camping is going well!

Right got to go now, got external auditors for next 2 days, so its roast dins, iron clothes, pack bag and a bit of swotting for me

Debs, Glad you got the shoes sorted and good luck with the audit, a low cut top sounds just the ticket ;) xx

Hi Crumpy, Lovely to read you xx

The parentals came for tea yesterday and we had a nice afternoon together. This morning was church, which is why I've never get to listen to DID. It was a different service today called Fresh Expressions - we had a quiz, a craft activity and a group discussing their favourite books. You do one of those for half an hour and then swap and do another one. It was great fun and gives you a chance to get to know people a bit better.

This afternoon I've had a snooze, which has left me with a thumping headache so perhaps it wasn't such a great idea after all!

    Nearly time for tea :)

Hello Crumpy, nice to see you.

Well, the 6yr old and 9yr old slept all night, after chatting till 10pm but the 2yr old was an absolute nightmare. She woke up at midnight, crying and wailing - took about half-an-hour to calm down, then moaned all night. I gave up at 6 this morning and we came down to the kitchen for toast. She then perked up, little devil.

The 9yr old said this morning 'Gran, I couldn't believe that she stopped crying when you were singing to her'!!!!! See? they all know I can't sing for toffee.

Not sure about the low top, how about something in the coffee ?? :-)) Good luck chuck .

    Morning everyone

Slight change of plan here this morning - I'm meant to be at a Networking thingy, but seem to have a bout of dodgy-belly so am staying in the warm instead, and planning the week ahead. So much to do, which is nice!

Sezza, I'm soooooooooooooooooooooo glad you enjoyed your night at the dogs - it's a real blast, isn't it?! I've been to Romford and Walthamstowe and loved it. the nearest one to here is Perry Barr, just outside Brum - one night, we WILL go there. Nic told his lad that it's like horse-racing but that small children ride the greyhounds round the track instead of jockeys .... 9 and gullible. Love it!

Thanks for all the excitement about our new addition. We can't wait! I'm resisting the remptation to put pics on FB and reveal his name as I don't want to tempt fate. He's still only 4 weeks old. I know, I'm being superstitious but I just don't want anything to go wrong.

Debs - I've invested in a book on How To with regards to a new puppy and it goes into cage training and "special" places in the garden to train him to use - so there's my challenge when he moves in with us! Can't wait ......

It's cold and crunchy out there, so if you're out and about, take care.

Back later (hopefully not feeling so icky!)
