Vassos, our new sports guy...

Chris Evans | 13:35 UK time, Wednesday, 10 August 2011

...runs - a lot.

Not only does he run, but get this - he "loves" running.

He even has different days for different kinds of runs. Wednesday is his long run day; he also has quick run days and hill run days.

He is the official running man. I, on the other hand, don't run.

But I have promised him I will today. How, when or where, I have yet to decide.

But I will not welch on the deal.

There may even be photographic evidence to prove it, there also may not depending on how big, pink and puffy my face is.

Peace and Love

Enjoy your run Chris, I must admit I know a couple of people who run and really love it, if they are feeling down or anything a run just seems to sort them out, however I tend to just walk as I am not built for running. The only place I will be running/walking to tonight is to a from the restaurant/train.

    Have a good day.

Pictures of you running would be nice to see. As for me, i just do keep fit and walking. Lovely sunny day in Sussex today.

Glad you filled the fridge up for Tash and Noah.

Hi Chris: running is all very fine, but like everything else in life, it must be done properly. No heroics, just a wee jog to start off with. These words of wisdom from someone who can't run to save her life: dodgy knees, dicky back, boobs that are too big, far too overweight! But, just you go for it, ok!

Keith: enjoy your afternoon, you deserve it!

Pen: enjoy your lovely weather - not jealous, at all!

Almost half past two, the day is moving along!

    Hi Chris,

I like the idea of running, but that's all. I don't even run for a bus, train or other forms of transport!

Where I live I see joggers/runners on a daily basis as I sit on my sofa watching TV...lol. Good luck to them, you and Vassos :)

Chrissie, I bet you can't wait for 5 xx Pen and I will blow some sunshine your way xx

Ooo Christoff 'ats off to YOU; yous wouldn't get ME runnin', not for a gold clock.

I've spent me life avoidin' most forms a physical exercise, ever since Grammar School when we 'ad a sports mistress like whatserface outa Misery, a right psychopath who 'ad an unnatural obsession wit 'er whistle an' a sadistic streak. Plus, I run like a girl. Oh yes I AM a girl. Ah well you know what I mean. Like a baby seal, then. In high heels. An' drunk.

Still, maybe if I'd bin in pursuit a the gorgeous Vassos (whom, in fairness, yous wouldn't trow outa the scratcher for eatin' biscuits would yous, girls..) instead a bein' frogmarched out to the hockey pitch by Lucrezia Borgia, past the rugby lads, sniggerin' an' snortin', gurnin' at our gym knickers an' gesturin' towards Woodbine Hollow behind the metalwork shop; thinks might've bin different an' I'd a given Sally Gunnell a run for 'er money. Oh yes.

Anyway the upshot is yous have my admiration. I actually have recurrin' dreams about runnin'; am desperately runnin', either after or away from something, and the harder I run, the slower I get. Or I'm runnin' underwater. Usually in the nip. By the crin I think I need 'elp. Where's Ian Wallace when yous need 'im.

  • Comment number 14.

    Hurrah me too, Deevs.

'Cept am not best comfy, either, come to think of it. The ex-hubby once said if I'd bin a pigeon I'd 'ave 'ad me neck wrung.

I make a bloody good fish pie, mind.

    Afternoon all,

Yes running seems to be the in thing in my neck of the woods too,I normally see the mums as when i'm on my way to work all the little cherubs have been dropped off at school so hence it's mums time for her recreation.

Chris ,I hope that Vasso will be kind to you today and take you on an easy run ,and you never know ,you may get to like it.

And the only thing you (may ) see me do is trotting to the end of the road ,nothing more energetic from me i'm afraid ,says her sitting with feet up ,a nice cup of tea and a couple of ginger nuts to dunk.

    see you later folks.

    Bids.xxx.

  • Comment number 16.

    he he he!

Clodagh, you reminded me of my old PE teacher

She was an Ex-England Hockey Coach who proudly told us she had none of her own teeth left having lost them all to a hockey stick or ten!

On our first lesson, she told us not to worry if she shouted at us; it was only because she thought we were worthy of the effort

She didn't even speak to me for 6 years!!

Bids, got any ginger nuts left? ;-)

  • Comment number 20.

Hahahaha Sezza, d'you know I'm not sure the aforementioned Rosa Klebb 'ad all 'er own teeth either, now you come to mention it!! Any road up 'er teeth certainly weren't what she used to crack walnuts. She'd 'ave startled a police 'orse, that woman. Shame she didn't 'ave the same terrifyin' effect on the boys when they used to prop up the hatch of the kit room adjoinin' the boys' an' girls' changin' rooms wit a golf ball. Every time we headed for the showers, we 'ad to run the gauntlet of about sixteen beady eyes in a row. Week after week this went on until they got overly-ambitious, used a tennis ball an' got outed. An' 20 laps a the rugby pitch carryin' a medicine ball.

(Actually I think en route to them showers was the only occasion I ever ran...)

    PART 2:

As a person who travels all over the UK for a living.... And what with me being a ladies man with many girlfriends, dotted around the UK & world, ave seen for myself the different areas of Britain from the poor to the wealthy!!!!!!!!

The fact that materliasm is promoted as good... Coupled with a lack of respect, lack of faith... lack of discipline.... Is leading to alot of very selfish people in the modern britsih society.... And ultimately alot of very unhappy young people... Who feel there is no hope for themsleves!!!!!!

This is why so many are involved in drink & drugs.... And now sadly this voilence!!!!!!!

All I can say is I 'ope David Cameron will wake up & do something about the mess Britain is in..... Or maybe it's too late!!!!!!

Like i've written before... the UK is controlled now by big global business nowadays more than by the goverment!!!!!!!

Which is why the few at the top get richer..... And the poor get poorer!!!!!!

It's a very complex problem not just the UK but most of the world seems to have got itself into!!!!!!

Am off for a banana before this blog turns into a book!!!!!!

    Tatty bye!

Now then running. I have enough trouble walking...... Good on you though Christoff, I am sure that you will be fine as long as you follow Steve Cram's advice from this morning - don't try to do too much too soon.

    Evening all, hope you're well?

Christophe, I started running again around my 40th birthday and I am hooked.
Yes, somedays it hurts but in the main it's brilliant. Mind your knees etc, we're not young spring chickens anymore.
Whether it's a light jog in the countryside, a long run in preperation for a race or the feeling as the finish line appears like a vision of beauty at a race - the feeling (for me) is awesome. Earphones are a must though (again, for me)

I've even organised my own 5km (3miles) run locally in aid of a charity close to my heart. I can't mention it on here as each time I do I get 'modded' but if you and/or Vassos fancy it then contact me.
I did 'tweet' you this evening
    - aaaah twittering, all new to me but I think I'm on there and in the game. I'll add my name to the fb clp bloggers page for those interested in following me. I think that's how it works anyway???

Just a quickie to my colleagues out there this evening dealing with the rioting and who have dealt with it all week - I, for one, am immensely proud to be associated with you. Be safe all of you x

    Morning All,

I'm not sure the weather knows what to do today! At least it's not raining.

So last night I went out on the Harley with my mate Rick, what a buzz. It really is quite exciting to be all leathered up, hanging on for dear life, as we whizzed along motorways and country lanes (ok perhaps not whizz). We also stopped at a bikers cafe to chat to the lads and lasses and admire the bikes. Although I did feel a bit like a fish out of water, afterall what do I know about motobikes! A fab time was had.

Then this morning I went to a breakfast meeting of a local Rotary Club to talk about the charity I work for. Free bacon butties and Danish patries all round; and there was me thinking my life was a bit dull and boring ;)

I've had a text from csn, and she said they had a lovely evening. I am sure some of them will be on here soon to tell us all about it - wish I could have been there.

    Time for a coffee.

  • Comment number 29.

Ali - I love bikes, glad you had a great time, next time try to find a mate with a superbike, once you have done over a ton on the back of a ducati or blade, you won't look back :-)

  • Comment number 30.

Deev's checked out the website after you mentioned it on Face cloth. It is super cool girlie, well done you have done a marvellous job. Now sit back and wait for the clients to roll in......

Sun is shining in Shropshire at the mo but the grey clouds are on the horizon. Only 3 weeks to go and I am off on my jollies and I cant wait. Need a holiday.

Closer to this weekend then the last and I am going to do a boot sale on Sunday if the rain stays away. Bit more holiday fund and decluttering at the same time.

Hope everyone has a good day and aren't nursing too many vino induced headaches.

  • Comment number 31.

Thanks CB! I must admit that as I hit "publish" my belly was flip-floping somewhat! Bit miffed that my hours prevent me from going to Networking events but I will get there, somehow ... soon!

Ali - sounds like a lovely evening was had, but I have to fess that I only like bikes on racetracks. I've never been on one, never had the desire to go on one and in previous years, leaving Donington Park after the MotoGP in a car, have felt utterly intimidated by the 1000s of bikes on the road.

Moto GP this weekend - Brno - has anyone told Mrs Evans Snr!?!?

    Hi everyone:

Phew, finally made into the office ... I TOLD Debs we shouldn't have gone to that nightclub! That lassie is WILD!!

Naw, I'm only kidding ... just had a busy morning and this is the first chance I have had to get on the blog!

Thanks for thinking of us last night - we really had such a terrific time. Lots of laughing, stories, catching up - it was just great.

Mary, who was driving, so therefore not on the Rose, tells me that our table was just a wee bit noisy! I can totally believe her, but I was too busy roaring with laughter at Debs' stories to notice!

It was just great to meet the lovely CSN and her terrific husband - a huge effort from them to get to Glasgow, and Glasgow repaid them by being very cold and very wet. But as our Gail said: it wasn't wet inside the restaurant! Gail and David were on great form, as always. Annie didn't manage to bring her Kindle, but I was just amazed to find out she actually has one! Mary, as always, her hair was perfection, whilst I looked kinda like Woody from the Bay City Rollers! You'll see the evidence for yourselves soon enough on FB!

Mary: thanks to you for the wonderful organisation - excellent.

Debs: thanks to you for having that meeting arranged for this morning, thus giving us all a reason for last night's get-together.

AliB: lovely to see you had such a good time last night. You are so brave, I could never go on a motor bike!

Cheryl: will have to check out your www - sounds very exciting!

    Hope everyone else is ok.

We had a lovely time last night, it was just a pity we had to leave so early as we had the chickens to put to bed before it got too dark, we left the restaurant about 9.50 and our train was at 10.05 so there was some running on our part, anyway it was pitch black and the chickens were fine when we got home.

Hope you're all having a good day so far.

Gail - well done on catching the train xx

Chrissie - thank you but there wasn't a lot of organising to do I just made the phone call xx Thank you for your lovely compliment.

Cheryl thank you too, that's very of kind of you. I try to make my hair look as perfect as possible to detract from all the others bits of me that are not.

Running..what is this you speak of? Oh, that thing quicker than walking that involves energy... nah, not for me..Definitely in the not built for category! Although a good friend of mine took it up a few years ago and is now quite addicted... good for her but my addictions seem to only be of the sweet and chocolately kind. Suits me! Well done on the run TO the gym this morning tho CLP.. you`ll be challenging young Vassos in no time!

Mini meets looks like lots of fun last night with everyone looking as gorgeous as ever! Mary, its true about your hair...always looks wonderful as does the rest of you madam..less of the drawing attention away talk..you is gorgeous!

Seemed a relatively sober evening..wonder if Debs got through her presentation..

Oh and Gail, your new dog is gorgeous..love the coats!

Deevs..as Ive tweeted you, www is fab-u-lous dahlink! I want to just use you cos it looks so lush! Good luck x

And Ali - a Harley..wow! I also like looking at bikes and my neighbour has a lovely blue one but thats as close as I get. Like Baggy i`ve happily thrown myself of a bridge attached only to an elastic band and would be quite willing to jump out of an aeroplane with only a piece of silk attached to me but bikes.. nope, scare me silly! Sounds like you had an amazing evening though!

Susan - any closer to a move?

And Crumpy..lovely to see you too... the gorgeous GM shall indeed be joining us in York.. not so long to go now actually..will soon be here!

Gingembre..great to see you and well done with all your charity work. Worthy causes indeed.

with regard to running, I love it, am addicted to it and if I had more time would do it more than my twice a week. I only really started getting serious about running 4 years ago and have taken part in lots of events, always wanted to do a full marathon but training for the half marathon made me realise that I didnt have enough time to train properly and more importanly my knees couldnt cope with running for 4 + hours as I struggled to walk properly running for 2 hours for days afterwards.

    hope you all stay safe.

If anyone has a clear sky tonight, there is a meteor shower later that should put on quite a show! ll you need is a clear night!!

    Vassos,

    Heroic and Inspirational...

Unless I missed it, I aint heard the show mention run geordie run, the tale of Mark Allison running 3100 miles across USA over the past 100 days. Have a look at what he has achieved, you should try to get him on the telephone for Friday's show! He will be backin UK before Saturday for Newcastle United's Match!

Go on Vassos, give him a call.

Ah bless Laz, he's dressed in the Magpies outfit.

Was in the Strawberry on Saturday, watching the fans and their kids trotting into St James Park in the pouring rain.

    Evening all

Done the only sort of running I do these days... I have run myself a bath. Walking, yes (preferably on a fairly level surface); running, no. As someone else commented earlier, boobs do tend to hinder any running tendencies.

I decided I've earnt a soak in the tub tonight as I really need to unwind. Got the girls coming over this weekend, so this is my last chance to have some time to myself and try to relax. This week seems to have gone on forever at the grindstone, so it'll be jolly nice to hear the candyman in the morning and prove that it's nearly over.

Hugs to all in need of one

    Hello Everyone.

I've benn looking at the photos of the Glasgow meet on fb, it certainly looks like a great time was had by one and all. It's good to hear that you are all mad, it's the only way to be.

Sezza-hope you enjoyed boy 1's spaghetti dish. I watched Gino on Tuesday and then decided to make his fridge fritatta. It didn't look quite the same as his but it tasted good. In fact, it didn't look anything at all like his ha ha!

    Weather improving here today!

    Hi bA-G,

I believe Mark Allison will be doing a lap of SJP at half time this weekend. He is flying back to Newcastle tonight after completing the epic charity run a couple of days ago. Nearly £79,000 raised so far. I would not believe it was possible for someone to run a marathon nearly every day for 100 days!

The bit that got me about his run is that it was never a huge media campaign, he has funded all of his expenses himself and much of his blog is dedicated to people who want to remember their lost loved ones. I'm pleased you appreciated the post, in my opinion this guy's efforts were worthy of raising a million pounds!

Ginge - I agree, you could have just said you were busy - was there an annoucement in the local paper we were on our way?? :-)

Lovely to hear about the running stores - I will have a look when I have more time.

To tie in with the bikes/ Charity theme one of my heros is Ted Simon and he has set up a charity to help educate people around the world, and the bring the world together. He is an amazing man and I have had the pleasure of meeting him twice.

I thought I would post, that would make sure there is a new blog for the weekend. ;-)

Glorious sunshine down here in Devon I am pleased to report!

I looked after my grandson (George) last night, remember him? Can you believe he is now over 8 months old! He fell asleep in my arms and I did not have the heart to put him in his cot so I cuddled him until him mummy came home. I think this grand parenting is the best job ever?

Nice quiet weekend booked, golf Saturday morning and them sort the garden out the rest of the time. I hope the rain keep away! The only thing stopping me is the last few hours of work today.

    Happy Friday everyone!

    Keep smiling

    Morning All,

It must be Friday as I am pretty sure I heard the Candy Man this morning :) Bit grey and overcast here, but at least it's not raining.....sorry Gail xx

Laz, Very inspirational article, what a guy.

Sezza, I hope you've survived the boys cooking! :)

This afternoon I am having the badger stripe removed at the hairdressers. So an afternoon of pampering is ahead. Then tomorrow I am off to Welsh Wales for a Christening and to see my gorgeous Goddaughter who is over from Hong Kong - can't wait.
