Surprise Surprise

Chris Evans | 05:34 UK time, Friday, 30 July 2010

I always find the best way to compensate for the latest blog of the year is to follow it up with a ridiculously early one from my garden the next day.

It's 5.20 a.m. and I'm stood outside my office with my morning cup of coffee thinking about what we might do on today's show, and whether or not I risk packing one more meeting into this morning's post show schedule that I already know I don't have time for.

But lo, what is that I hear down the bottom of our yard, behind the garages coming from the trees? I'm not sure but it needs investigating. Wish me luck, I'm going in.

Good morning CLP (and everyone else) from yet another grey day in Ayrshire.

I'm at work an hour early as David's car is in garage so I had to take him to work for 6.30, never mind just gives me time to check out the latest sporting challenge video and photos.

Have a good weekend everyone, I know I will!!!

    Morning Christophe,

Have just seen the figure skating video, what were you wearing? Can't see those purple satin trousers flying out of the shops any time soon! Jonny looked as if he was off to the Rio Carnival.
Great video, the concentration on your faces, hilarious. Well done!

    Happy Friday, everyone!

Why do you wake up earlier when you don't have to go to work?

D'you think watching the ice skating video will wake me up?

    Morning peeps
Seza - I have been off work all week and have woken at 6am every day, however, I have just snuggled back under the duvet and had lots of lovely snoozes until about 8am - bliss!

In an A&E television biography on AC/DC, Angus Young said that the group saw Johnson howling and writhing on the floor during a Geordie concert. They agreed immediately that Johnson's performing style fit AC/DC music. They discovered later that Johnson was having an attack of appendicitis.

Busyish day ahead, full of spreadsheets. The joy.

    Ello CLP & ALL...

    Bingo Star 'ere...

CLP - Most interesting ter see no blog then two come along close together!!!!!
Not working for a bus company are you????

Seriously though.... the last blog about AC/DC singer Brain Johnson... very inspirational to hear he didn't get his big break until his mid thirties!!!!!!
Am 37 & feeling like ave missed me big chance!!!!!!

Don't wanter sound mad or egotistical but ave always been a dreamer & known am a bit different than most!!!!!
A know ave got a big talent... but life never seems to let me ge tit out!!!!!
Suppose though there must be a lot of people out there like that.... who could have done it... but never did!!!!!!

A always wanted to be a racing driver... a just know a can really drive... I have an instinct for it... don't know where it comes from but its there... in a split second a can control a car sliding etc!!!!!
At 27 after trying ter fund me racing from trying to start me own business & after not coming from a wealthy family or having a father to help me like most of these top racing drivers do... Lewis, Jenson.... even Matt Neal of the BTCC... all have their fathers behind them all the way... Schumacher too!!!!
I finally relaised at 27 - the dream is 95% over!!!!!!!

Then... after watching The Open... and I had always liked golf... a suddenly thought right... for golf all yer need is a set of clubs... 500 quid!!!!!!!
A lot cheaper than 50k ter fund a seasons racing!!!!!!!!

And a set out to become a pro golfer!!!!!

Some may think am mad... some may think good on me!!!!!!!

And in between work a practiced... got me handicap down to 12!!!!!

Me chipping, bunker play & putting were all brilliant!!!!!

But a just could not get the swing right as from the beginning a developed hitting from the top & a bent arm at impact!!!!!!
But the great thing... a analysied the swing... have got so many books on it.... and filmed all the top pros on practice days... me swing is now 85% plus there!!!!!!

Even after not playing for a year after doing me maths & stuff... ave picked up me clubs & am as good as ever!!!!!!
Yesterday a was watching the best women in the world... and again their swings all have very similar fundamentals.... You can learn so much watching the women golfers as they swing the club a bit slower but just as good as the top men... if not with more finesse!!!!!!

Something a learned yesterday... a noticed to hit the ball harder/ further... yer don't swing yer arms faster.... yer clear your body into the ball faster as yer do the 'magic move' aka drop yer arms down at the same time from the top of the back swing!!!!!!

Maybe a should give the pro golfer thing another shot... and if a don't make it... i'll have a lot of fun along the way & be a damn fine amatuer golfer!!!!!
Plus great for yer fitness & health!!!!!

And if a don't hit the big time... then in the future.... hopefully a can me give kids (if a ever manage to find a wife) the kind of fatherly support that they might need to realise their dreams!!!!!

Today... am off to the golf again to look 'n learn more!!!!!!

Wish me luck.... as CLP says about his garden.... 'am going in!!!!!!' (the golf that is not CLP's garden!!!)

PS CLP - THe something in yer garden... it could be a golfer lost their ball... a paparazzi..... or Adrian Chiles.... be careful CLP!!!!!!!!

    Bye!

I've just got back from the interview - thank you for your good vibes etc I think they worked, I certainly got some good vibes from the interview.

I am sooo glad I did the course last week, a lot of the technical answers were just there rather than me looking blankly......

As this is a contract job, I will probably hear later today. The interviewer said she would be contacting the agency today anyway and she sounded quite positive.

The only downer is that they will want me to work for 3 months and that means that we can't go on holiday before November... still it does mean that we can have a good holiday at the end of the contract....

    Re post #14.

I can confirm that Bingo has racing driver potential. As a passenger in his first car at 18 I used to sit leaning backwards with my right foot pressed hard to the ground. Until I gradually learned to relax knowing that he did have split second timing and could get through the very narrow space :)

I stop tonight for my two weeks holiday - I am so happy, it is brill! MrS and I are having a "staycation" but we do intend to have "days away" and such. I intend to catch up with some of my friends, have my hair done (yikes!) and spend time talking to MrS over a nice lunch or two. Well, I've survived another week at the grindstone, and don't have anything planned for tomorrow (if you ignore housework and things like that). Sunday will be filled rather well with the usual Sunday stuff (ring, walk, shop, ring again) possibly to the extent that the shop bit has to go, but I'm sure there's enough stuff in the cupboards to last a day or two extra. I too have a drink in hand, but not alcoholic... yet! Am just weighing up if I need to do anymore driving today before I go get a glass and fill it.

Now he's woken up, said he's going to bed, shifted in his chair and started snoring again!

think i'll make a run for it and try to beat him into bed so he's not spralled across the whole thing before I get there!

    Sleep Well!!!

I have had a fantastic afternoon.

Went to the park, fed the ducks, played football and enjoyed all the fun fair rides with little grandson!

Then we went to the seaside and built a huge sandcastle and paddled in the sea!

Then we played in the snow and built a huge snowman!

And the day finished with a paddington bear story!

I will let you all decide, what is fact and what is fiction!

Thanks everyone for your concerns about Dylan.

Some of you may know, how pampered my pets are.

I have always battled with Dylans weight, he simply will not stop eating.

So, the last couple of days, I have had to give him a bath, to give him a hand with personal hygiene.

It seems, I wasn't helping him after all.

The vet, on our first visit, said he needed a bath!!

I explained that he had a daily bath, but due to the thickness of his coat he never dried off.

Ok,. he said, rabbits can get cystitis, so I got some antibiotics and some medi scrub wash to bathe him in.

I dashed home and reported on here that he was ok.....

That was until, I started to pull away some of his loose fur.

The next bit is too gruesome to report, please refer to 'Fly strike ' on google.

A mad panic phone call to the vet and returned back to the surgery as fast as we could get there.

Lots of treatment administered, and now having to treat him like a baby, slapping on the sudocrem at regular intervals.

The rest of the day has been spent, wracked in guilt at trying to do the right thing, yet achieving totally the opposite.

I got back tonight and let him have an hour hopping around the garden, he was actually pleased to see me, despite what he had endured at the vets.

On a happier note, while sitting and watching him stretch his legs, I came across a very funny situation.

I have a little tame field mouse, that lives in my garden wall.

I took a slice of bread out for him, and he popped out of his hole, as soon as I sat down.

Then, something else also popped out of the same hole...

A frog, in fact, a huge frog!

I spent the next 20 minutes or so, watching both these unlikely friends, scuttling/hopping around together!!

I did wonder, at first which one might come higher in the food chain, but, it seeems that maybe they are on the same rung of the ladder!

Anyway, Dylan is back and tucked up in his 'newspaper' bed. We cant use shavings, due to the sudocrem, and all the newspaper will have been devoured by the morning, but, I am determined to bring my lovely bunny back to full health, no matter what it takes or how much it costs (and it did!!)

Off to grab a bite and then going to have a read back over todays musings.

Hope everyone is ok, I guess I will find out in a moment.

MTF, who thinks that might be a long one!

    Morning all.

Nice and bright here so far.

Rather a late one for me last night (yes even later than I was on here!)
so, going to be taking things nice and easy today.

Off to the garden, to share my croissant with my tame field mouse and maybe even the frog, who knows?

    Wishing everyone a great Saturday.

    Morning MTF,

Hope that you have a better day today. So sad to hear about Dylan, it is horrible when pets get ill, they can't tell you where it hurts. Hopefully, he is on the mend. That Sudocrem is pretty good stuff, infact when my children were small, they used to call it 'magic' cream, saved many a sore baby bot from nappy rash!! Let's hope it quickly works its magic on Dylan.

What with the frog and the mouse, you sound like a modern day Beatrix Potter...! You and Deevs should get together now she is on this creative writing course! I am currently 'looking after' a family of moorhens, but despite having a huge pond next door, haven't seen any frogs this year.

Have a good weekend, Mcw x

Poor Dylan MTF. But love the notion of the frog and the mouse playing together! As for being Beatrix Potter CSN .... hmmmm!?!?!

Just having a quiet moment with a cup of coffee before I go and get ready. So looking forward to seeing some of you today. Absent friends, both living and departed, will be toasted. (as in glasses charged and raised, not as in a panini ....)

    Loving your work!

    Morning all

It's still damp and drizzly up here, I really do wish the weather would improve! A bit of sunshine would certainly lift the spirits a bit!

MTF, I've seen sheep with fly strike, poor Dylan! Don't beat yourself up about it though, and I'm sure he'll make a full recovery! xx

My step-dad has been putting crusts of bread out for the birds, or so he thought - apparently he has a little mouse in his wall that's been dragging all the crusts back to it's little storage place too. I'll have to check with him whether he's seen a frog as well.

Sorry MadChickster, it was you not CSN with the Beatrix Potter suggestion. See, that's what happens when I drink red wine all night .....!

    Hair of the dog anyone??!!

    Thanks MCW, JG and Deevs.

    Deevs, red wine ALL night?

Wow, bet you havent got a hangover either!

Mcw, we dont have any fresh water near us, only the sea, so I was amazed to see a frog.

He leapt out of one of my tubs, when I was watering them last night and straight into the hole in the wall.
