URGENT: HELP NEEDED

Chris Evans | 14:58 UK time, Wednesday, 12 August 2009

How about this second breathtaking photo of the week. After the hair comes...

...the finger !

ring1.jpg

This is a piccie if my friend Marion's finger. She made the bloomin' silly mistake last night of going to bed with her ring on and now she cannot get the damn thing off. Her finger has swollen - the lot.

She's tried butter and vaz, and I rang my mum who said it's the fire station to have it cut off and then back to the jewellers, or iced water to get the swelling down and then back to the butter and vaz.

"I know" - I said - "I'll put your finger on the blog and see what the gang say"

So there you are peeps. Any genuis tips out there?

Peace and love.

Hold the finger under running cold tap for as long as you can bear to, and use washing up liquid to massage it off the finger.

WARNING - make sure the plug is in or it could go down the plughole!!

Good luck, it does look painful, I've done the same thing myself!

What more of an excuse do you need than to visit a fire station. In fact I might go to bed with my rings on tonight...LOL xx

No tip from me I'm afraid, apart from the butter one already mentioned.

    Hi Chris and the gang,

I read the blog everyday so though id better get writting!!

Tell your friend to try washing up liquid, i find that usually does the trick.

Looking forward to the show tonight.

suck the finger and pull the ring off - works for me everytime!

PS - she can suck her finger herself or ask someone to help?

  • Comment number 6.

Sorry CLP, Mrs Tango did that last year....it's an A & E trip I'm afraid, to cut it off....the ring that is, not the finger..!!!!

Afternoon everyone, from a dull, overcast and dreary day.

As already mentioned, cold water and washing-up liquid, works for me!

Bingo - good luck on your quest to be a train driver, you seem very passionate. Hope you succeed!

Try all of the above and if all else fails then the trip to A&E is the way forward... though I prefer the idea that the Fire Station is an alternative :)))

AliB and Lyndyloo.....girls girls girls.....norty thoughts re fireman and hoses then???
    LOL

  • Comment number 12.

No problem - reduce swollen finger by applying ice making sure hand is above head height. Finger should go down enough to use any of the above as long as greasy, butter best, then you can do what Baggy does - suck the finger until the ring comes off.

Repeat as necessary until you have eaten too much butter!

If it works - can I have the ring? - looks nice.

  • Comment number 13.

Or of course there is always the Firemen!!!

  • Comment number 14.

Is it me or does the ring look a little small anyway?! I sleep in mine no probs. Sorry not very helpful but once she gets it off maybe she should get it made a little bigger?

  • Comment number 15.

Me I would call the firemen but then thats me! LOL!

BUT I am going with cooling it as much as finger owner can bear to contract finger.

There is also a trick with cotton thread where you wrap it round and the ring comes off - will see if I can find it on tinternet for you

  • Comment number 16.

Straight to the fire station of course!!

    Pen - whats your 'tune'??

I see the mention of dental floss so guessing the same principle.

    Hello lovelies!!

How about combining AliB's and Bagpuss's suggestions and getting a fireman to suck the ring off???

(Tinsel goes off into a little daydream ...)

Anyway, sorry I've been AWOL recently. Had a bad week last week, had to get my lovely dog put to sleep, she had acute kidney failure. It was really sudden and a horrible shock, but at least she didn't suffer. I've been feeling very blue since but reading the blog keeps me going through the day so thanks folks.

    Much love to all

CLP..... ave just read the blog..... soz about Marion's finger situation..... ave goot the answer...... if a come ter R2 with some cotton wool and a rope...... and some WD40.... basically can a borrow yer F430 CLP??????
Ave goot racing driver sensitivity in me right foot!!!!!!!

Basically.... yer need ter tie Marion ter the drainpipe outside R2..... with the rope.... then feed the cotton wool or INDEED cotton would do.... in fact i'd say cotton iz better!!!
Feed it inside each side of the offending ring and tie the other end/ ends of the ring ter the tow 'ook/ eye on yer F430!!!!!
Then with 'racing driver' sensitivity.... and am noot one ter boast but a feel am the only person with the feel for this job.... VERY, VERY, VERY gently ease forward until the ring....... releases!!!!!!!!!!

And in the true form of Top Gear's.... the Stig.... a also will require..... Englebert 'umperdink ter be playing on yer 430 radio'Please Release Me!!!' whilst.... executing.... the monurveure in question!!!!!!
And don't worry if yuv noot gotta 'umperdink CD.... yer could play it on yer show via the R2 BIG 'it computer and a could ave yer 430 radio tuned ter R2!!!!!!!!!
Sometimes being a dj.... yer can abuse yer position without even the boss knowing.... know what am sayin'!!!!!!

    Ave a spelt monourvenure correeectly????????

Do yer want me ter come down ter the Western 'ouse CLP/ Marion???@@@??

A won't even charge or try ter claim me tube fare!!!!!!!

    Am noot like that!!!!!!!

    Chow!

  • Comment number 26.

Penny Forem - BIG THANKS for the good luck with the train driver thingy!!!!!!
A am VERY passionate.... the blogger who's nam eam noot allowed ter mention would tell yer!!!!!!!

Ave always bee passionate about the railways.... but noot i a nerdy train spotter sense!!!!!

Plus i'd be 100% safe.... safety iz the top priority az a train driver.... it's one big thing that appeals ter me... the proffessionalism.... unlike being a trucker sharing the road with all the nutters!!!!!!!!!

Sad thing iz... ave been trying ter become a train driver for years... but it seems like fate won't let me!!!!!!

Even passed two appitude tests.... consisiting of.... mechanical knowledge, memory, concetration.... and safe personality!!!!!

Although the last.... yer might find 'ard ter believe after reading me blogs!!!!!

  • Comment number 37.

    Hi all

Best advice i have for getting a ring off is using hemerroid (sp?) cream. Put it on and leave it a while so it shrinks the finger a bit then you might still need butter or washing up liquid just to ease it off.

I with the opinions of looks a bit small anyway.

    Seza x

  • Comment number 38.

Def agree with the Fireman reply...

Or, I'd have said do wot Bees Mum suggests...v cold, ice or similar, wrap hand in frozen ps etc, above head height, for as long as you can bare, then butter or vaseline...is best to avoid any panic as this will just make Marion more hot and bothered, and much less likely to be able to remove it at all.

Might I also suggest that she wears it on a different finger to avoid further complications of this matter???

Me, still itchy and in quite a bit of pain too. Doc is being very tight with the pain killers. Feels like I’m lying on stones all the time, and sometimes it feels like the sort of noise an angle grinder makes…if you know what I mean…also not allowed in the sun as the pills have made my skin quite photo sensitive…although the Badger says that I don’t glow in the dark. Which is nice…

Anyhoo, only just back to work properly today…so not busy at all…NOT!! The locum didn’t clear the million emails that were rubbish, so I had to plough through those Mondee, then off again yesterdee (long story don’t arst), and typing up minutes from a meeting held three weeks ago…and I can’t read half my writing, least of all merember wot they all said!

Anyhoo, gotta shoot…my colleegew has promised these minutes to everyone in England by Friday pm, and it’s nearly home time today already EEEEK etc…

    I've missed you all SOOOOOOOOOO
    love

Peas a taddy bit of quite good news...the Badger is working at the Limpic Village. Hoorah. Hopefully that is going to be more or less regular up to 2012 (or 2013 heh heh!)

  • Comment number 39.

Firstly ice to bring the swelling down (if it gets desperate try ibuprofen) then try washing up liquid - if you put neat washing up liquid on your finger and then add water you might be able to get it to wiggle a bit nad if the swelling has gone down you might be able to get it off.

  • Comment number 40.

Also, if you can tear yourself away from the fire men, a jewller will probably be able to cut the ring for ou, they did for my mum

oooooo tins, sorry about your dog (your friend). I had to put my golden down a year and a half ago. He was 16 and just couldn't stand any more, poor thing. • Comment number 51.

Ew. Oh dear. You know what. That's what yous get when you go stickin' yer finger where it won't fit.

So. Nurse Gladys to the rerr-rerr-rescue, Granville.

Hand in a bag of peas, frozen, natch, (chiz) plenty castor oil, plenty vodka, one a them tent strap thingys to lash victim to gatepost, one large carrot and the milkman's horse. And don't look.

Never fails. Many's the time I've employed this method the morning after the night before when am chained to the Spire on O'Connell Street, or when me Spanx long-leg knickers have ricocheted right round me mazzard when I've tried to get 'em off over me head.

Oh yes. Plenty Germolene. And more vodka.

Anything else I can help you with before I get started on the GD and the rhino enclosure at Chester zoo?

Seza, we did for a while, but it's been pretty cloudy all day, and damp first thing.

The clouds were clearing, but I've not been out for a while to check. Actually, need to go out now with Finlay, so will have a look!

Nite Seza - have sent a few suggestions of bloggers - if in doubt who they are - send me a message. I'm not on fb in daytime but Diva will let you know who they are if I'm not about.

Nite JG - dog flat out so may be sky watching much much later. Twas clearing earlier so fingers crossed.

Went to bolt hole for the eclipse - how long ago was that!!! Really really spooky - so cold - no birds - almost dark. Totally off any subject but just sprang to my mind! Wonder where everyone else was?

Hazel honey - do you really have to go to work? You shouldn't be there you know! And pain killers - scream for more if you need them but don't take when not needed. Big - gentle hugs xx

    evening anyone still awake!
Yes, I know I'm not normally on here at this time of night but I just had to drop in to say that Walking with Dinosaurs is the most fantastic thing I have ever seen. You believe the dinos are real, honestly it was amazing.

If you get the chance to go and see it, do. It will blow your mind.

Pics on FB tomorrow, if Adam has time.

    Hi all

I know it's a late and infrequent blog from me but I just needed to touch base and feel someone is there. As some of you know I live in France and am away from my two I know "young men" but I still love them and miss them terribly and I get very lonely sometimes and need support. I lurk alot but don't contribute much, but that doesn't mean i don't enjoy all of the banter and high spirits. I'm usually a very up beat and humurous person but at the moment that's not happening.

I'm sorry for putting a dampener on the blog but I just needed to explain myself.

    Much love

    MaW X
