London comes to Berkshire...

Chris Evans | 11:20 UK time, Tuesday, 30 June 2009

... We have a visitor. His name is London. He is a guinea pig. He has no one to love him anymore. Until now that is.

Tash has taken him in until a permanent home can be found though judging by the way she was stroking him on the sofa last night at half past eleven - it looks like he might already have found one. Even I will admit, for a guinea pig, he is pretty cute.

London:

The biggest guinea pig house in the world!

shed_300609_420.jpg

Spent the second half of yesterday at the publishers dealing with the legal read of the book. Interesting one this, although Natalie my editor said the notes back were extraordinarily few, nevertheless a few re-writes were forthcoming.

I am now on the third draft - how very very eh ? More huge swathes of text have been picked up and plonked elsewhere to make it "fly darling". Editors really can make such a difference - you have to trust your editor even when they cross out ten pages and write the word irrelevant next to it - even if that did take you the best part of three days on your holiday in Portugal - d'oh.

Currently writing this blog on my Blackberry in an MOT station getting the last of the cars road legal for The Drive Time Fabulous Ferrari Caper down to Chewton Glen on Friday.

I am becoming more nervous by the second.

Have a great one you peeps.

Hellloooooo London!!! How cute are you little fella!?!?

I've had a few hamsters in my time (Hagar, Hamish, Hamlet ... all RIP) but they don't last long and its painful when they leave for the big hamster wheel in the sky.

As it is, I believe mrssootycat is gonna outlive me by a country mile. She has the art of giving me the evils for no reason, even tho its me what feeds her and tickles her belly. Or is that Mr Deev ...?

Welcome to London - mr bp used to keep gunnia pigs and wabbits as a child (the last one - Mr Tanis - went a couple of years ago) and he loves them - so much so we have never given our cats rabbit flavoured food

    Gunnia pigs are agrophobic apparently!

So, from New Guinea or worth a pound and a shilling???

Apart from the obvious sentimental value, a lot less than your car...

Afternoon peeps - quick lunchtime blogette.
Ex-hubby had loads of guinea pigs when we got married, our's weren't agrophobic coz they used to run around the lawn in a little fenced off bit. They are born with fur and their eyes open so they look like mini versions of their parents, or indeed hamsters - of which my son had 4.

First was Houdini - so named coz he escaped from the box the petshop put him in, in about 5 seconds!, then there were Phil & Lil, named after the twins on Rugrats and finally Squeak - coz that was the noise she made when Adam dropped her as soon as we got her home!!

Also had a rabbit called Mitten (one white paw) and cats called Jaffa (little ginger chap) and Jelly and Blancmange - no idea why, Adam's choice!

    Just a doggy, now, Honey.

Luv to all and catch you at home tonight,
    ttfn, Crumpy xx

...have just got the pic of the biggest Guinea Pig House in the World wot hadn't downloaded before previous missive...and am hoping, frankly, that wee London is too much of a chubster to squeeze through them bars...else you're gonna have to chicken wire him in. Or make him wear a tag.

Aw what a lovely ickle rodent Christoff.

Trust me I'm an expert on rodents. In my time as a rubbish farmers' wife I've had many of the said creatures, in varying stages of life, dropped on me foot by an over-zealous Jack Russell; not to mention the happy hours I've spent chasin' a ratty interloper round me kitchen with the spatula and the lid of me best cheese plate in order to escort it back from whence it came, before the Father-Outlaw came in and dispatched it in a much less polite way with the fryin' pan.

And then there was Fanny the ferret. Testimony to the fact you should be careful what you wish for whilst drunk in the company of ferret-breeders who aren't.

Bless her, Fanny was very pretty but extremely smelly and reluctant to perform tricks other than squeezin' through very small holes in the skirtin' boards. Anyway I tried me best to re-habilitate her but I'm afraid she had to go after I caught her pole-dancin' up the budgie's cage and when remonstrated with (usin' a rolled-up Wigan Observer) she clamped on to me hand with the zesty enthusiasm of a Great White.

It wasn't her fault of course. She was just bein' a ferret and doin' what ferrets do. But a girl has to draw the line somewhere; and I'm not goin' out rattin' for ANYone.

Anyone want a budgie with Tourrette's by the way?

    Afternoon Chris et al,

Arh I love GP's used to have one years ago called Boffin, who happily shared a hutch with muffin the rabbit. You've got to keep him Chris - go on you know you want too.

Many years ago I used to work for a publisher (scientific, technical and medical) not quite as exciting as your type of books but I know the process well. I, like gingembre, will be buying it on day one and not waiting till Christmas.

Just wanted everyone to know that I am sat sitting on a brand new office chair - black leather and it's called Darcy. So Darc everytime I sit down I shall think of you.

Any news on Nicki-Noos, was thinking about her this morning.

Imagine this missive with a big coloured in first letter...too hot to think what they're called, but the sort of first letter that they start 'Once upon a time in a land'...etc and the O would be a big O.

Anyhoo. This one would start with a big N.

Noah was the son of Christophe, who had named him Noah because he would bring rest from toil on the land which God had cursed (Channel 4 or similar). In his five hundredth year Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth (for whom Grampa Christophe and Granma Tash bought many lovely toys and sweeties). When Noah was six hundred years old, God, saddened at the wickedness of mankind, decided to send a great deluge to destroy all life. But he saw that Noah was a righteous man, and instructed him to build an ark and gather himself and his family with every type of animal, particularly starting with a Guinea Pig. And so the Flood came, and all life was extinguished, except for those who were with Noah, "and the waters prevailed upon the earth for one-hundred and fifty days" until the Ark came to rest on the mountains of Ferrari. There Noah built an altar to Dog (the first altar to Beth mentioned in the Bible) and made an offering. "And when the Lord smelled the pleasing odour of his nappy, the Lord said in his heart, 'I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the inclination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I ever again destroy every living creature as I have done. While the earth remains, seed-time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease', and Heston Blumenthal shall forever create new recipes with which to inspire and amaze.

Then God spoke to Noah, and his descendants would henceforth be free to eat meat (because, like his father, Christophe, Noah was a bit of a Foodie), and the animals would fear man; (except when Tash was giving them cuddles) and in return, man was forbidden to eat "flesh with its life, that is, its blood." And God forbade murder, and gave a commandment: "Be fruitful and multiply, bring forth abundantly on the earth and multiply in it." And as a sign of His covenant, He set the rainbow in the sky, "the sign of the covenant which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth." And the Rainbow did land mightily in Brighton and San Francisco.

After the Flood, "Noah was the first tiller of the soil. He planted a vineyard; and he drank of the wine. (again, taking after his father, Christophe)

Noah died 350 years after the Flood, at the age of 950,(so here's wishing you a good long life Christophe) the last of the immensely long-lived antediluvian Patriarchs. Antediluvian well, well, well...

Based roughly on Genesis. Not the Phil Collins type. More the chapters 6 - 9.

Thanks rips..... I have my "informational" interview rescheduled for the forth time to this Thursday...... I have even applied for some positions in the UK, no feedback from them as yet...... I wish the process didn't take so long..

  • Comment number 95.

    Evenin' Rips.

Howsitgoin' in Cork? Have you sussed the accent yet? And have you palled up yet with anybody called Finbarr?

    Marvellous.

    Clodagh.xx

  • Comment number 96.

    Hey Bondy,

It does seem to be taking forever doesn't it.
Excuse my ignorance and also if you've already covered it - but what is an 'infornational' meeting?

I work in a completely different industry where words like 'it' and 'if' are deemed difficult!

    And Bondy.

How frustrating. All will be well though. You'll see. Because yous is a top bloke I'm finkin'. Good for you, keep at it.

  • Comment number 98.

    Thanks Clodagh.

Rips, an informational interview is when you meet with a company representative in the hope that they may have a position in the future that may be a fit....... so you're not actually interviewing for a specific position... hope that makes sense....

  • Comment number 99.

    Yo Clodagh,

I've just awoken from the lay down with a wet towel on me forehead that your earlier missive enforced.

    I'm still a little wobbly.....

Cork is Grand as they say....probably the freindliest part of Ireland I've visited.

The guys working for us down here are from Margahfelt (or some such) near Belfast...and to be honest, that's proving to be more of an issue......

Today I've managed to work out that "Iadldee" actually means 'Aye that will do'...bonus!

No Finbarr's as of yet, and I've also got to find out where cousin Frank lives, like I promised me Mum.....but the draw of the hotel bar and nicely cooked slab of Beef
may mean that, that will have to wait until next week.

Did nip off early today though, and drove down to Kinslade and Sandy Cove....Oh for all town centres to be full of those sort of shops.....lovely!

    Are still awake?
