The time passing or us passing through time debate but one on.

Chris Evans | 15:41 UK time, Friday, 24 April 2009

Hi, everyone, ...

... so how about this?

I'm on the cross trainer again and I'm in the middle of one of those ten minute hour moments. That is a ten minute programme that feels like an hour. Now previously I had been talking to a mate and fifteen minutes had passed by in a flash.

This simply can't be right I thought. It can't be that time now feels longer just because I am doing something I loathe as opposed to something I love and then I had a thunk and here's what I thunked.

Maybe the faster your heart beats, the slower time ticks by to compensate in some way and seeing as my heart is usually at an average bpm of around 160 at the mere sniff of physical exertion, time was practically trickling by.

The second I stopped the sweaty stuff, hey presto I was almost instantly running late again.

Anyway, life continues to be a complete mind trump don't it?

Have a nice weekend now dears and God willing we will blog together again come the morn' that is Monday.

clp.

2009.

PS. After the news concerning Donnington, what about our Big Yellow Day Out? We may have to move it to India or Russia!

    So I was!

I've got a cross-trainer in my cellar. Took it down in bits and it's still in bits. I'm not a particularly tall person (5'4") but I can't use it without banging my head on the ceiling! lol

Shame about Donnington. My DS and his godmother are off to Silverstone for the F1 in a few months. She treated him to a weekend away for his Christmas present. How lucky is he?

All this talk of exercise is quite wearing me out. I shall have to head downstairs for another cup of tea to revive myself! lol

Donnington - Legal proceedings for Non payment of rent from the folk leasing the track to the landowners who are Bernie's close friends and therefore are fully aware of the revenue the BGP will bring in let alone the prestigious title of owning the track that host the BGP - odd or what?

  • Comment number 20.

Chris, there is more about this train of thought in Lucy Eyre's fantastic book "If Minds Had Toes", an introduction to philosophy and "The World of Ideas" written for younger readers. A mouse might scurry around really quickly and not live very long, but he has a very fast heartbeat so it all seems pretty normal to him.

Likewise the elephant appears to us to move really slowly but he thinks he's going at a fair lick as his heartbeat is really slow.. This could be why elephants are supposed to be scared of mice, because they move more quickly than an elephant can compute, and maybe the mouse never even notices the elephant as it appears to be inanimate.

Nowt like a but of existentialism of a Friday. Not sure how it relates to the crosstraining, will have to think about it.

    Sorry, it isn't my theory!

Now then, what's everyone having for tea? We are having a bbq, wey hey!

  • Comment number 22.

Yes, I've got it, your heart beat is going really fast but everything around you stays at the same speed, so time goes more slowly. Eureka!

Off for a lie down with a damp cloth on my head.

clodagh I so agree with you, I love New York and feel totally safe wandering about on my own. We're moving 3 hours drive North of there at the end of the year and I can't wait. It's a lovely train journey from Allbany, it follows the Hudson river, really pretty in the fall. OMG i'm sounding like an American. I mean Autumn.

  • Comment number 26.

mistletoe, will you be a fellow upstate new yorker? Where are you moving to? I am about an hour East of Buffalo.

  • Comment number 27.

Bondy We're based in Albany but are hoping to live in Saratoga Springs, I'm looking forward to the horse racing in August, and we'll be an hour from Vermont for the skiing happy days. Not sure where that is in relation to where you are. We should be there by the end of the year. I've been reading your weather reports with great interest. I was last there in December when there was a huge ice storm- very impressive. Is the weather getting any better? Mr B is going there on Sunday, wot should he pack?

  • Comment number 28.

    Mistletoe well done you!!!

And now you have me all soft-focus and dewy-eyed, thinkin' about my driving down to Manhattan from New Hampshire in 2001. And yes indeed it is beautiful; I remember the stark contrast of the breathtaking scenery before me and to my left, and the alarming sight of the GBF, hung over, steaming and head noddin' like Buster O'Grady, to my right.

I'm in a bit of a mad jealous rage actually..

Reminds me of your 10 minute problem that seemed like an 'our CLP.... my probelm lasted 4 dee's but seemed like 4 weeks!!!!!!
The problem waz a waz doing abitta part time driving work moving an aychGV from a repair depot to another repair depot ter..... errrrr...... be repaired!!!! Yeah.... only problem a goot inter the wrong truck and it waz waiting ter be repaired..... only problem waz it's fault wazza faulty central door locking system/ immobiliser system!!!!!
Now, sorry know, sorry now, yer might say noot a problem.... well the waz.... alotta problems in fact!!!
The first waz a goot locked in the truck..... and az it waz at the back of the workshop... aka outta the way, no one knew a waz there!!!!!
But it gets worse..... the truck wazza a gritter!!!! Nyyyyaaa!!! A GRITTER!!!!!!!!
Trust me ter get looocked in a gritter during a spell of most nice 'ot weather!!!!!!!
It gets worse..... although the worse bit wazza blessing in disguise.... (although a didn't realise it at the time!!!!)
There waz another fault... the cassette wouldn't switch off and waz playing the same tune for the whole four DAMN dee's a waz trapped!!!!
The only good thing waz it flattened the juice in the battery on the fourth dee.... enabling me ter overide the immobilser/ locking system and escape!!!!!!
Yer may ask what tune waz playing.... i'll DAMN tell yer...... 'Julian Lennon' and 'Salt Water Wells In My Eyes'!!!!!!!!!

The only good news ave goot from the past week iz yesterdee a accidentally met Ricky Tomlinson on the train on me way back from the above incident.... so a managed ter get 'im ter sign the Bingo A ter Z!!!!!!!!

Wonder when it ends.... suppose The Age Of Pisces must follow..... wonder that that means for us all..... if we make it through this mad age in the world!!!!!!!
Pisces.... very sensitive..... often cry...... does this mean we're gonna all be in tears????????
Reminds me of The Lennon tune again!!!!!!

  • Comment number 43.

    Phew.

    What a week.

I've piloted the Twin Turbo from here, to there and everywhere.

But, I've navigated it back to Rudgwick, touched down safely, cabin doors to manual, we'd like to wish you a pleasant onward journey and look forward to welcoming you aboard MfR Airlines again very soon.

The only thing I am certain of is that I am knackered.

Lately, I seem to have so much to do and so many places to go that I have completely lost sight of what it is I actually do for a living. Work is a constant blur of meetings, spreadsheets, meetings, motorways, meetings, spreadsheets and deadlines. Somehow or another I seem to get to where I need to be, meet the people I am supposed to meet, and hit the deadlines, but I'm not quite sure how.

Hey ho. I'm not really grumbling, in this day and age, in the industry I'm in, I am fortunate to have a job.

So. The weekend is upon us once again.

We're following a similar pattern to recent weeks and mostly chilling out. My favourite chef, Bill Granger, was in Guildford signing books yesterday, but because of the aforementioned flurry of fun, I wasn't able to get there, but the bookstore have reserved me a signed copy of his new book so I shall pop in and collect that tomorrow.

Suitably inspired by said book, we shall have an evening of cooking and catching up on 24, and Ashes to Ashes.

This evening shall be spent popping in and out of here, the fridge and assorted foody programmes. Strange though it may sound coming from a confirmed veggie (20 years, and counting), I find it curiously relaxing watching chefs pan-frying fish and chopping up bits of dead animal.

I guess it takes all sorts.

    Later my friends, later.

Bingo, quite agree about Oulton, although the neighbours tend to complain at lot and they have curfews...but such a lovely spot on a sunny day! And nice circuit too, looking forward to 31st May for the BTCC there.

Am still smarting about selling my yellow car, but will still find some way of being wherever it is!

Mistletoe - re Lost - I am so behind and I find that you need to watch a few at a time to kind of get your head around it - I am only on series 3 on DVD and if you havent watched for a while you need to almost do a bit of revision and go back a few episodes to refresh brain.

Having said that the episodes are kind of 'stand alone' but for the overall plot you do need to watch and remember the whole thing so that you can go " oh so thats what that is allllll about!" LOL

    Hello All

Re Mr CLP's blog - I have long had a theory that we all have a certain amount of heartbeats in our life and when they're gone, they're gone and off we shuffle.

So, small things with a very fast heart beat live shorter lives, big things with slower heart beats conversely live longer lives. Then in amongst one species, them what is anxious, excitable, whatever and have racing pulses sometimes use up their heart beats and live shorter lives, them what have the ability to chill the old heart rate, eg by mediatation, use up their alloted heart rate slower and therefore live longer... trust me, you know I'm right!

So - that out the way.... It's been such a long time since I could comment regularly on this blog and now that I poke my head back around the door, the room is full of folkies I don't know. I've not had the chance to read and catch up, so I don't know you guys, even worse, I've lost touch with them what I did know and I don't know what's going on....

    I feel like an outsider...

    Hey Jen

i have been hopelessly out of the loop too so know how you feel... but we are back now and the newbies (thats us again too!) seem a great bunch..and the rest of the ususl suspects have kept me going on many a day..so thank you. and from one returnee to another..please stay!

liking the heartbeat theory... however, the rate mine goes to when im in the gym then i should only be here for about another 6 mths, 4 days and 23 seconds...22...21..

Hiya Scoobs, yes probably best to leave the cake until the morning after all, I have sent you such a huge slice and it is oozing with caffeine from the freshly perculated coffee amongst its ingredients.
Have it with a glass of water in the morning unless you want to be bouncing around like Skippy for the rest of the day.
Oh and anyone that might remember my tale of woe about my liitle wild rabbit, also called skippy, she is now so well after being so poorly and she is now in her sixth year so naturally we do worry how much longer she will be with us, but she is one tough cookie.x
