Don't shoot - oh alright then if you must.

Chris Evans | 10:25 UK time, Tuesday, 28 April 2009

Off to a photo shoot...

... for the jacket of the book.

It was a no food night last night and up at six this morning on the cross - trainer - pathetic I know but you've got to make an effort haven't you. Trouble is if you work out too much too close to the actual shoot then you're still all red and puffy by the time the slap goes on. I think I just might stand a chance of "calming down" before the it's time to watch the birdie*.

This is why radio is such a dream.

Apparently they have a few "ideas" for the cover - should be interesting. No doubt we'll all be latted up by lunchtime and somewhere along the line a bit of work might get done.

The dude in charge is actually a very cool guy so it should be fun. But if I never had to have my photo taken again ever before I leave this mortal coil then it would be still be too
soon.

*Watch the birdie - we had to look it up and it comes from a little brass bird being held above the camera to try and get the attention of the the subjects of nineteenth century snappers.

Say Cheeeeese everyone...

CLP.

    Morning CLP,

    Can't stand pictures of myself.

How can my two kids and the CMM always look so good and I look like fat old beetroot?! You can only work with what you've got I suppose.

Just received a huge box of sweets through the post...am currently chewing a Wham bar and living in 1982.

    Happy days

    Morning CLP,

Sounds an exciting day - aren't you supposed to say Wogan then you have a nice pout going on. It's better than saying cheese or sausages!

Really looking forward to the book, although I don't want to wish the summer away - that's if we have one.

Rips, were you expecting the huge box of sweets? If not a nice surprise - chuck us a flying saucer, if you've got any.

Ah, Christophe, I'm sure that you will look your usual sparkling self...it's amazing what they can do with a bit of make up and photoshop these days. Why, I myself am a delishus, almost edibly photogenic person...especially after a small gin.

Keep your head high on your neck to avoid any nasty double chin.

Looking forward to the book. Out in time for Christmas is it?

    Morning CLP 'n' all

Hate my photo taken immensely, don't even look in mirrors if I can help it! What's that all about?

When my grandchildren had a professional photo shoot, they were told to say, bogies.
It got lots of laughter and the result was a fantastic picture.

Sunny here, but don't think it's gonna last. Some menacing white fluffies up above.

ps acid mike...if my mum say's 'that's a lovely picture' this is the same photo that immediately gets shredded. I find that Mums in general have no idea of what constitutes a 'lovely picture'. This is why the 'naked in the paddling pool' pics should be burned prior to ever meeting a new prospective partner.

Oh, but Dook surely the paddling pool pictures???

    No???

In which case they should be buried at least 6ft under in an airtight box for future generations to find, and wonder why these little people are all surrounded by water and blue puffy circles...and possibly a cricket bat...although that may just be me...and probably not for here.

  • Comment number 14.

I was 'treated' to one of those makeover sessions followed by some soft focus photography. I was actually quite impressed by the results and took them to show my Mam. 'You look beautiful' says Mam (quite high praise indeed since Mam spends most of her day picking splinters from her bottom as she occupies a permanent position on the fence!).

Anyway, 'you look beautiful' says Mam 'they say the camera never lies but it clearly does. Amazing what they can do with photography these days!'.

    Cheers Mam!

My facecloth picture is from one such session and I think it just goes to show what a professional photographer can do!

I wasn't airbrushed but she did know what angle I needed to be at and what angle she needed to be at to avoid unsightly lumps and bumps!!

Just goes to show that with the right equipment you can make a silk purse out of a sows ear!

Like your mum, my son felt the need to comment, only his was that it was my 'soft porn' photo!! - I was almost pleased!

me and Mr bp had a proper photo shoot done when we got together and gave eberyone a copy od the best - now we can see how loved we are from where the picture ended up in their houses

we then had a hair/ make-up and multi outfit (both of us all three) one done after we got engaged - best photo used for wedding invute

Very glad I got that done as Mr bp had his hair straighthened and it was the longest it will evr be - all down his back - hes had it cut to shoulder length now and it will never be that long again - I have his actors headshot photo in a frame next to me at my desk

I have had two now - went with one friend for the first one (facecloth pic) and a group of us went for a girly day out for another - had a lovely one of 5 of us taken!
Then went for tea at The Ritz!

Wished I had chosed a black and white pic too, as I think they look great.
Have got a couple of sone, when he was about 5 (now 21) that my brother took.

Anyhoo, Christophe, are you going to be using one of your new pics to update the header of the blog??? That's gotta be three years old now surely...and a lot of wotsit has passed under the thing since then...

ps we are just having the great jaffa cake debate. Cake or Biscuit. I've gone with cake as they're sponge. Although sponge fingers are hard. Now am confused and may have to finish off yesterday's Car@mel.

pppss Pip, egg, beetroot and green beans. Does this diet include copious amounts of black coffee too? If so, I tried it a few years ago. We had to re-upholster the settee.

Now at lunch, so here "legally", as it were.

I hate having my photo taken, I hate looking at photos of me and I'm not keen on taking them either (too self-conscious, I guess).

So on that note ... Good Luck CLP. Project and radiate from within and I'm sure all will be fine and dandy!

HL - I'd go for cake in thr Jaffa Cake debarcle too, merely because they are called Jaffa "cakes". Otherwise would they not be Jaffa "Biscuits" ?

And what on earth is the lime / lemon flavour variety all about??? They are orange. Always have been. Always will be. End of.

I'm very passionate when it comes to Jaffa Cakes, y'know!

Man, I have had such a bad morning you would not believe. Tin hats, bullet proof vests and pistols at the ready.

Sorry, but I'm going to rant - I just gotta

I have had, as I'm sure many of you have an absolute ruddy nightmare - it's also known as the jobcentre. As I've not been working since the end of Jan, bank balance (no that's not right it's not a balance at all), anyhoo I thought on Friday I nest do summink about it.
You can only contact them thru an 0800 number, so I hung on for 30 mins - I now know Vivaldis Four Seasons back to front. Eventually speak to a nice (or so I thought) young man who to save time will complete your claim over the phone, so an hour later he says he will give me an interview time at the jobcentre, this was yesterday 10 am. I get there and no appointment had been made and all the ruddy questions he had asked me were not on the system. 'You best go home dear and ring the 08sodding00 number again, as it's only them that can make an appontment' Well, after another 1.5 hours on the phone, appointment set up for this morning. They were actually expecting me, which I thoust was a good sign.......but oh no, they could anly talk to me about the time I was signed off after having me appendix out. Apparently, if you need to speak to someone about Job Seekers allowance.........you've guessed, Go home and ring the 08........................
Well, I done it, and another appointment for Saturday (I checked and yes they are open)

Medicinal? For the sake of my sanity today, I think Penny!!

So this is a bit of a weird request ....

Can anyone recommend a good biography on George Best?

I've never really known much about him, other than the obvious, but after watching the docu-drama on Beeb2 t'other night I would like to learn more about him. Not necessarily huis playing career - after all, he retired at 27, but more his background, his decline / demise etc.

Much of what the docu-drama depicted struck a chord within me, having watched my lovely dad battle alcoholism (his ultimate eventual downfall).

I'm fascinated by addictive personalities. My entire perspective of Pete Doherty changed when I read a biog on his issues a couple of years back.

    Thanks gang!

As far as I'm aware a Jaffa Cake is officially a cake due to VAT being chargable on biscuits as they are a luxury item (!). Jaffa Cakes are essential foods( :-) ) and are therefore VAT free!!! The argument used was that when a cake goes stale is becomes hard whereas biscuits go soft!

See there are good reasons for tax laws - they settle the burning issues of today's society!

I'm starting to have second thoughts about the job.

I'm a quite outgoing, busy, buzzy type of gal. The job, I will be the only one in the building (well, alive anyway) It's that busy an office, I thought oh well, I'll be blogging to me little hearts content, then shock, horror, outrage they do not use compooters, at all!!
I asked the bossman if it would be ok, as long as very quite for me to have a radio as I may well go nuts, his reply was, the company does not approve of such things, but added as long as I can't hear it how would I know.

I hope I'm not making one of those great big fat mistakes, but I'm starting on Tuesday....can only give it a go 'spose.

The bossman seems nice enough, although a bit overchummy I feel, he rang last night about references etc. and finished the call with 'no worries it'll be fine babes'
Babes, babes - instant gag reaction

Oh well, thats it for now.

Was going to start with a Yippee for Nicky and now I'm not so sure that you're happy with the lot which is about to be your's! Congratulations anyhow, have followed your progress with crossed things and glad you got it. Could sumfink in your ear be the answer - music that it rather than the radio. As for puter....to me that would be against most of our human rights! It's a must in any organisation these days.

Don't get me going on JobSeekers etc (no, there are no others available, ask my sister who has 4 kids and got made homeless. AND because her ex pays her £5 over the odds she can't get it - or the benefit!!)

    Deev,

Agree with Hazel's recommendation - I've read Blessed and it gives a good insight to George, not just the football side. The documentary showed more of the effect on his Mother, which was very well done wasn't it?

Nicki - can understand your reservations re the job but you could give it a chance and see how it goes. Maybe once you're in, you get away with a radio. If you don't like it there at least you would be earning a bit until something else comes along? Agree with you about the 'babes' though, nearly as bad as 'love'.

As much as I found it enjoyable to watch, it was also quite painful/difficult. As said above, much of it struck a chord from my upbringing.

I thought the actress who depicted Ma Best was amazing - and how they showed the effects on her physically as well as emotionally and on the family: her ageing so prematurely, her weight loss ..... just brilliant.

Can I nominate it for a BAFTA next year?

Deev, yes the acting was superb. Although I'd read the book, I didn't realise just how quickly the effects of the drink took hold of her. Darce, are you sure you're not me...I nearly put that...and I am very definitely NOT casting any clouts. In fact (AliB) the only interest I have in football is the length of the season...which is persackly the same amount of time I still have a Wally Bottle. And if we do have a warm spell, I just kick it out if I get too hot. But it still gets done. Can't bear being chilly in bed. Even with a Badger.

I'm just a bit tight with the heating! Haven't had the heating on for three weeks now. But I've not cast any clouts and won't do until the end of May and I've still got my double layer duvet on!

I did think about getting my summer clothes out from under the bed, but am glad I didn't now.

Off in a mo to do a shop at @sda, then home to put a pizza in the oven, get my jammies on and watch Chelsea beat Barcelona - or not?!?!?!

Darce - Our heating went on last evening too, but utterly refuse to put it on in May!!
Which is fast creeping up on us as we speak.

We were in North Devon the first week in May last year and the temps were 70 degrees.

Hazel I might be you - Wally bottle and socks - and keep right under that 15 tog duvet whatever the weather. Was going to put the only difference is without a badger but perhaps I can't say that.......

Oh all that talk of duvets and fires makes me want to snuggle up. (Un)fortunately not. Off on my trek to see P!nk in concert now. Waterproofs at the ready.

Catch up with you all tomorrow.

    Have a lovely evening.

Pen/Ali - yes it was cold wasn't it and I'm a bit tight with the heating as well but I light a fire as I've got lots of logs at the mo. Even in the summer I light the chimnea in the garden and hog that.

Light lots of candles of an evening. Creates a lovely mood and gives off heat!

    Thankyou!

I do that Deev - I love candles. Then the other half comes in and switches the lights on to read the paper or go on the computer. He can go upstairs for footie tonight!

    Hi all,

    Nicki darlin'

I hope it's not the revelation that we would work within five minutes of each other that has put you off!

    Take care Sweetie.

Is the Big Fella trying to tell me something....I'm goingto pick my Mum up from an AA meeting tonight, which ironically is held across the road from a really nice Pub.
I was going to pop in about 8:00 have One pint of shandy and a read the paper (no issue with Mother, I'm not that daft....I'm not!) and then collect her at 9:00 before running her home.

By chance came back to the office that way today, and it's burnt to the ground, last weekend apparently.....alright...I get the idea, could have been a bit more subtle!!!

Thunder, sorry. I just check and I don't see one from you. Can you send it again.

  • Comment number 89.

    Deev,
I did wonder if Bondy was ignoring my request as I am of the male variety (Am I allowed to say that in these days of PC).

    Rips,
I did wonder if Nicki's cold feet (no pun intended) were in response to your revelation. ROFL
