Tash, you have all my sympathy...those of us who have never given birth, even though we know people that have...never hear about the 'bad' things...apparently there are secrets that are only ever between a woman and her gynaecologist...and I thank the Lord for that!

...and Christophe...to gaze upon such beauty is another gift in itself...

I always said there is NO dignity left once you've had a baby! if it isn't people complimenting each other on how good their stitching is (happened to a friend of mine and initially she was quite flattered till she realised what they meant!!), to how easy (or not) it is to sit down etc - and i remember the "not-wanting-to-go" days - never worth making a cup of tea beforehand! but Tash you must do it otherwise it'll get worse!!

and who can forget the Victoria Wood bit about the haemorrhoid (not spelt right but you know what i mean!) - she says they should give you 2 bonnets, one for the baby and one for the haemorrhoid!

sorry, all those who haven't had the delights - or have them yet to come!

but nature is a fabulous thing - even people with absolutely awful times giving birth go on to do it again - the end result is without question worth it!!

Roidy - i agree with the kilos thing - my midwife used to convert it all to pounds every time - so why bother with the metric?!! if it helps my son was 9lb 2oz when he was born and was just over 4 kilos so I guess 3.9 kilos is about 8.5 lbs?? am sure one of the midwives out there will know exactly!

Oh yes I remember the aftermath of my two when you put it like that, but it soon passes and then it goes all warm and fuzzy, well it did for me!! Best not to remind me of it though. My babies are 32 and 28 and one has a baby of their own so granny Rose now, that's a whole new story starting for me.

Isn't life wonderful when you don't read the papers or watch the box, life can be so simple, so extraordinary, so amazing, unfortunately some people make so awful, so confusing and so disgusting!

You have put life, real life into perspective this last week Chris we all need that, keep on blogging and giving us what life is all about, the simple innocence of life, the real love, the amazing feelings we all forget sometimes when we go about our lives. Thank you and put these blogs into a book for us all to read before we drift off to sleep because this is real life.

Bless you Tash, Noah and Beth for giving us so much in just one short week, we love you all for it.

I always try and type up the minutes within a couple of days, if not hours, while it's all still fresh. So if you write something down that doesn't quite makes sense you can think back to who said it at the meeting and remember what it is they did said!

As for Morrisey (and I've only come to his stuff on Radio 2 late in life) he does rather remind me of Billy J Kramer (Beatles era in case you haven't heard of him) who was fine on record e.g. Little Children, but his live performance made you recognise the art of the studio sound engineer..... I heard a clip of Morrisey's live performance the other night and have to ask - why??

Please don't set the angst police on me - his writing is amazing but the voice, no.

...and another tip...(the table plan...always!) once they start talking, just glance to see who is speaking, but don't look up, or look out of the window...that is when you will miss possibly the only vital point in the whole dull malarkey!

Meeting notes - check with the ChairOne if they want bullets or verbatim (with an I) or they will strop later. Scribble notes verbatim ("as said") and you can bullet later - but not the other way round. Enjoy!

hi chris and tash...yep it goes so quick, i have a nearly 4 week old babba and im trying to find a time machine as i speak to slow everything down some....

anyway a tip for the wee wee's....hold a large wadge of toilet roll over the 'painful' area and then let the fountain go. Yes its gross 'cos you are essentially weeing on your hand but after all those 'urine' samples throughout pregnancy it shouldnt be that odd!! Just a tip. I tried the water thing and i could never co-ordinate everything to happen at the same time!!

and my other tip.....

pain killers, no one is going to give you a medal for 'toughing' it out!!

Good morning Chris - such wise and heart warming words - I have read the blogs from Thursday and caught up with some of the posts but not all - I have a slip of an excuse for my absence but mainly have been in meetings and out of contact at home. Boo hoo

The wee story was hilarious and really made me smile and it seems a lot of bloggers recall their experiences and some wise words from experience for you to note indeed.

Gingembre from your posting it seems you had a really good birthday and you really deserved a fun time.

After having a female op I too had a problem with the toilet and the bath really did help along with Arnica. That and trying to walk on the wards holding my tummy thinking it was going to fall apart/drop off wasn't funny but that's what happens.

Off now to go back to lurking and hoping that one day soon my internet connection will stay up long enough for me to blog at home.

A whole week has gone by already - told you so, CLP!

Poor Tash, I do hope she doesn't mind us all knowing about her 'women's problems'! My sister in law had a 9 and a half pound baby as her first and I vividly remember how much she struggled to walk around the ward afterwards. Not being able to carry to full term myself meant I at least avoided that problem - we just had other ones to worry about instead. But all was well in the end.

Can't add much to the advice given to Debbie but the table plan is the best idea out there. If you do use descriptions like 'tall bald man' etc do make sure they are in initials only - or written where people can't see them! People can be soooo sensitive about what you think are purely factual descriptions!

Yesterday you made us laugh and now today all us girls are sitting with legs well crossed!!! Poor Tash, and i guess poor you as well.....:), but everything good in life is always worth waiting for. perhaps not the 9 months you waited for Noah, maybe bit too long, but whatever the timescale, it will be worth the wait, and the excitement, nervousness and trepidation once you 'start' again....just similar to first time together, except Tash keeping one ear open for her baby no 1!!!!!!

Recycling / packaging debate.

Yes there's too much packaging. Waste has gone up because as a nation we rely on more convenience foods, which are over-packaged. Not to mention over-priced. And under-taste.

But the big issue on recycling is you can only recycle what your local authority are willing to take away to recycle.

If the Government made every area the same UK wide as to what's collected and recycled, it would be a tad easier for the general public to get their heads round.

That said, I still detest my fruit and veg being encased in polythene.

Surely common sense should prevail.

Deev - good point re local authorities. Every London borough seems to have their own rules/containers/pattern of collection. So one of my friends who lives on a main road has different arrangements from her neighbours directly opposite who fall into the next borough!

At our bolt hole we never use the recycling collection service because it is done on a day when we're hardly ever there and the boxes just get left out in the street afterwards. We use the recycling bins behind the supermarket instead and that area is always very busy. So my question is, just how much does the special collection van actually gather?

It's all down to tonnages y'see. The LAs get paid by the Government for their tonnages of what percentage goes to Landfill (subject to landfill tax) and what gets recycled.

Lighter materials (plastics for example) tend to not get collected because it takes a shedload of plastic to make a tonne/bale. Glass bottles and paper on the other hand, well - you can do the math.

We're lucky in Suffolk as to what we can recycle via our kerbside scheme - and I consider it a priviledge having worked as Education Officer at the Suffolk Recycling plant for a couple of years. I learn so much!

Another thing you may not know - use your "bring sites" in your District - paper banks, bottle banks, clothing/textile banks etc - they raise money for local causes - particularly those sited within school grounds etc.

See. I can be sensible sometimes!

I'm all for recycling and less packaging. I am often asked at the checkout whether I'd like my veg/fruit put in a bag and I always say no, cause if I did I would have done that when I selected it - doh!!

But what I don't understand is that if my local council only collect the blue bags/bins once a fortnight. How come those blue bags in my bin store that are put out a week early are taken?!?! Does that mean they are just throwing them in with the everyday rubbish and not recycling them?

Dear Tash, how I remember the pain and discomfort......would agree with the lavender and a warm bath. Worked wonders for me both during and after bringing the GD into the world.

Poor JV, sure he must be an ok bloke really. BUT does he really enjoy making us all depressed and getting up our noses (mine anyway)!

JV seems to take pleasure in winding both his callers, guests and us up. If the bbc or others involved think this is good journalism then they have much inward looking to do. The programme always made me angry, incredulous at some people's opinions and disbelieving that JV and others want to do this kind of show at all, just to pay the mortgage?! I have stopped listening, same as not buying 'those' newpapers. Let's have some uplifting lunchtime programming 'bbc people that make the decisions'.

I've switched it off - rarely listen to him at all and one hour was more than enough for me today. I also wish there was something more fun and uplifting on at lunchtime. Do the powers that be read this blog I wonder?

The only useful thing he did was to remind me that it is dustbins day tomorrow so I've put mine out ready for the 06.30 disturbance. The most annoying thing is when they wake you up and only then you realise your bin isn't out but it's too late to dash out and do it!

As a mother of a beautiful 4 month of daughter, I fully understand where you are coming from regarding not wanting them to get any bigger and protecting your son from the big bad world. They are so loving and trusting and completely oblivious to life outside the bubble which we have created. I wish I could freeze the moment, but it is true you just don't want them to get bigger. I cried when I had to pack away her 0-3 month clothes. I just wanted to thank you also for keeping us posted on how life has changed for you as a husband, father and dog owner! Your honesty is wonderful and so entertaining. Please keep blogging as it brightens up my day. Love to Noah, Tash and Beth.

I'm in full agreement re (over) packaging at the supermarkets, it seems things are in a sachet, in a carton, wrapped with plastic, in a box. Makes me mad (der), an I grew out of pass the parcel ooo must be weeks ago now!

I confess to thinking that he was attractive in some ways - more than when he was young and I regularly listened to his music in various student hovels - but then he kept doing something odd with his mouth (or teeth) that put me off again and I can't quite say why!

But if pushed I suppose I quite liked that Portia de Rossi (or similar) who was the tall blonde ice queen one in Ali McBeal - and who in real life was with Ellen de Generes for ages (not sure if they still are couple). I would have liked to think I looked like that (but never did) which possibly signifies something...........
