WHATEVER YOU WANT, WHATEVER YOU LIKE...

Chris Evans | 12:28 UK time, Friday, 14 November 2008

Er... sorry about yesterday but here's what happened...

... I sat at the computer yesterday morning, this very one, 9.15 it was and began to write scripts for last night's show. It was very complicated and was only going to work if we all had specific roles. Anyways, I started to type away and didn't look up again until four o'clock. In all the madness and believe me yesterday was completely mad, I simply FORGOT to blog. That's it, in fact I actually thought I had but of course I hadn't.

Thanks to everyone for putting up with us last night and a million more thanks to all those people who bid and sent us best wishes.

This Monday we nearly decided not to do the car thing, it was looking increasingly impossible to get all our ducks in a row in time, so what changed ?

Well it was simple really, we used the old showbiz trick of announcing it on the radio anyway and then we HAD to make it happen. So that's what we did.

What a result though, seriously exciting stuff and now the more I think about it, the more I want to make it really special. I'm going to start plotting the route in the next few weeks, with some choice stops and some good driving roads. I also have a feeling there will be a few extra cars in tow. I suppose the more the merrier.

Also thinking about next year's auction and doing it all again.

I've always loved cars ever since my mum took out a loan for £500 and bought me my first mini. Ever since I built my first remote control Formula 3 Toleman race car. Ever since I made my first five grand and bought a white MGA that I'd drooled after for several years, a purchase that cleaned me out to such an extent I couldn't afford to insure it.

To now combine my job, which I love, with my passion and make a bag of money for C.I.N. in the process is such a joy. I am the luckiest man I know.

God bless Enzo Ferrari, God bless my mum, God bless my wife and our little family, God bless the team, God bless the team, God bless you lot, God bless radio.

I'm so happy.

CLP.

    Oh Chris bless you too!

My Mum asked me had I been listening - but I hadn't :(

It's a tradition where possible that we listen to as much of Radio 2 as possible leading up to CIN then watch it on the Friday.

The radio was on earlier but it's been switched off in the office I might have to go switch it on again!!!!

My friend made pudsey cookies and sent me a picture especially!

Aahhhh CLP, Bless. Glad you and yours are so happy. As Bagpuss says, your happiness really comes across in your show.

    Hey Lambie Pie :)

We enjoyed listening last night, I wished that a) I was over 30 and b) that I had a few thousand quid spare that I could've bid to drive those cars!!!

    It's not often I wish I was over 30 ;)

Hey ho, maybe in a few years the insurers might let you do it again and there'll be one less thing in the way of me bidding....

There's no TV in this household so we've invited ourselves over to some friends' house, with pizza and chocolate puddings, so spend the evening watching the goings-on for CiN.

Looking forward to it - I might even get dressed (although a friend has just told me she did the school run this morning in her nightie, just with jogging pants and a jumper over the top...)! It's the little things that cheer me up these days, such as the perogative of not having to get dressed unless I need to :)

Here's looking forward to the arrival of Baby DJ, I forget when he/she's due - I may have to go back through the blog at some point and work it out again!

Hope Enzo's settling in at home, how's his wheels doing??

Didya miss me? Didya? Didya? Eh? Eh?

Tiggs - thank you so much. You are truly lovely xxxxx

I rang CiN line this morning (10.40ish) and requested Dr and The Medics for all the Chris Evans bloggers from CtD. The thing is, the lady who took my credit card details almost forgot to ask me what song/dedication I wanted!! She said "thank you for calling CiN and for your donation" and I went"oh don't I get to pick a song then ....". So, bottom line, I tried, but I'm not 100% it was taken down properly. I'm only praying she doesn't add a 0 on the end of my donation, or else we're on beans on toast for thev rest of the month!!!

Susan - I've been to visit my 86 year old nan for the last couple of hours. She had a hozzy appt this morn but she's alright. Remarkable really, I cannot imagine getting to 86!

I believe easy's back early December, just im time for his job as Mr Claus at Harvey Nix ...... he did promise I could sit on his knee but only if I'd been a very bad girl ....

    ;-)

CLP - happiness is wonderful! And yours is certainly infectious. One day I hope to raise a glass with you!

btw: the fella who was on "pole" for almost all of the first hour - did he bid for a table at the Dine and Disco?

Right, I have a lasagne to cook so I'm gonna toodle out to the kitchen when Wrighty comes on.

    You're all wonderful!

  • Comment number 30.

PS: Chris - we can forgive you forgetting to blog, but please don't ever forget to turn up at 5pm Mon - Fri !!!

  • Comment number 31.

    CtD
Do you make your lasagne from scratch? I use the recipe from the Cook Yourself Thin girls, less pasta, no flour in the white sauce etc. It's really tasty, you wouldn't know it was low-fat unless you were told
Will get the book in the post Monday, now have to get one for SBP too!

    Tiggs xx

  • Comment number 32.

My lasagne comes in a nice foil tray with a cardboard lid :-)

  • Comment number 33.

Tiggs - the "base" recipe is from the cookbook I used at school - with some grown up modifications ...... for some reason, we weren't encouraged to use red wine in cooking at the age of 15!!

Yep - all made from scratch - even grate the cheese, despite the temptation to buy ready-grated ......

Masterplan is to get the lasagne done and ready to go in the oven, and get the bowl of salad prepped so when i get back from nail bar later, all the hard work and the majority of clearing up is done!

    That's the plan anyway .......

  • Comment number 34.

    Debbie

I wanna "do a Jamie" and come over to yours armed with ingredients, red wine and bags of enthusiasm! xx

  • Comment number 35.

    LOL!

    You are very welcome Cheryl.

But Jamie's gone all wierd these days, have a foul mouth on him doesn't he? And he looks a bit dribbly to me, like as his talking he might dribble in your food.

Oh I know, I should try harder. But I have fussy men here that wouldn't appreciate the effort if notice it even. Half the things that I would like to cook they wouldn't eat anyway.

  • Comment number 36.

I have fussy men too, one only likes milk and the other only likes nice food.

I suppose the nice food thing is an okay fussiness really.

We're trying the other one on aniseed and orange flavours already, I think he's going to be like his dad and hate aniseed all his life though. Shame, I love the stuff...

I can do lasagne from scratch, I found a really good recipe for white sauce - the person who wrote it out obviously didn't have much success with it, but I've never had a problem!

Hey I actually baked the other day, made bananana bread - not made it for months, don't usually have much success with it when I've not made it in a while, but this was the BEST banannanana bread I've EVER made!!! Well pleased!

Might try and stick around today and be a bit sociable :)

    xx

  • Comment number 37.

I don't think I could cope with a fussy family. I'd like to think I'd live by the "eat it or starve" mantra ....

hard faced old moose that I am!!

at this rate, my lasagne will be purchased from waitrose later ......

back when the mince and onions are doing their thing !

Thats ok. Keep up the good work.

    Glad Enzo is ok.

My daughter's school is raising money for Children In Need today by letting everyone go in their own clothes and pay a pound.

Sun is shining here in Leicester and the boss says we can have the radio on.

CTD don't think that i have heard your request so fingers crossed for later.

    Hi Chris
Reading your blog today, made me feel so happy. I am sure all your winners in the auction will have a wonderful, wondeful time. I felt very sorry for the guy that lost out on the car auction, by one pound, got a table at your do. How I wish I could afford it, as my B-Day is 4th July. But I hope to go to the Festival of Speed next year. I only live a few miles from Goodwood but have never been, but it will be a B-Day treat.
I will try and get a record played on your prog tonight, for all the bloggers.

I haven't had the opportunity to say to you: how are you doing with your new wee bundle?!

I did leave a message on the blog when he was born, but since then haven't really had the chance to say anything else!

I was laughing at you talking about getting dressed during the day - when my daughter was born, my husband would leave for work at 7.30am and come back in at 6pm and I will still be in my dressing gown! I COULD NOT co-ordinate myself in any way, for weeks and weeks!

So as far as I can tell, from what you are saying, you are doing brilliantly - it's all a bit of a change, though, isn't it??!

Really fancy lasagne now tonight but its curry night! I Really love any sort of pasta and it's not hard to make Debs - tin foil with a lid indeed!!! Agree with Diva too - red wine - in fact most things I cook are in red wine!!! - Well there is always some left in the bottle!!

Hehehe thanks Chrissie, I've hardly been on here to be honest - not even lurking much sadly. Nice to have a few minutes slob time to sit and read and be sociable!

Ben's doing great, I'm on the mend, been suffering headaches (won't go into detail, might scare CLP) but a little bit better every day. Still find it incredible that I'm a mum.

I read the other day that having a baby is supposed to increase a woman's spacial awareness and problem-solving abilities. I look forward to these great things, so far no sign of them....!

Oh when was Phoenix's request?? It may well have been drowned out by a scream...

Right, be back in a bit - that bananananana bread really was so good I must make some more while the place is quiet.

Hi CLP and the rest of the bloggers.

I dont know about everyone else, but I really thought last night's show was cracking. The excitement of the bidding was phenomenal and congrtulations to all those who won a place on the grid, or a table at the D & D, you are very lucky but also kind-hearted and generous souls for parting with great wads of cash in a very worthy cause.

Well done to CLP and the team for coming up with an idea that gives so much back in order to get to so much for Children In Need.

You are totally forgiven for now blogging yesterday as everything was so fabulous and went off so well.

    Happy Friday eveyone!!

Cook Yourself Thin was a series on Channel 4 last year, really good recipes that didn't look like they were low fat in the slightest. One of the girls in here was one of the subjects and they showed her how to recreate her favourite takeaways without all the calories. For example, the lasagne recipe only uses one layer of pasta, the other layers are replaced by roasted peppers and griddle courgettes and the cheese sauce is literally milk, cornflour and a small amount of extra mature cheddar, same taste, less than half the fat/calories

Thanks Tigg, appreciate your help. Sounds similar to the type of recipes we are given by the club but I think I will still invest in the book, the key to sticking to an eating plan is to have a lot of variety for healthy options.

Don't you just love it when you go to the blog to write something, read what's just been written, and by the time you've read just 2 comments the thing you were going to write has completely gone out of your head :)

Hmm it might have been a link to my blog, lot of the gory details are on there. Not sure how to get the link through, bit wary of the old blog police!! It's dancerjen . blogspot, or some such combination anyway. Only look it up if you really are interested, and/or can cope with gory details :)

    Anyways, nuff about that.

Guess what, I'm actually dressed again! Cebrating the monkey being still asleep. Considering searching for a bottle of red, even tho it's only 3.30pm. SO looking forward to getting out of the house to watch CiN tonight. Getting really excited!

Not started on the banannanana bread yet, but now I'm dressed that's my next Thing To Do. Yum!

I think John has the same appeal that Chris Parker/Julian Clary (to a certain extent) had, so dire that we just love 'em!

  • Comment number 77.

Re Strictly - John is such a lovely man but apart from Jodie I wouldn't want any of the others to go if he was kept in. He is good entertainment but at the end of the day it is about who has made the most progress. I really like Christine, she is like a ray of sunshine when she comes on to the dance floor, as much as I like Austin and Tom I feel they have been really good from the beginning and the competition between the two started from day one so now I don't get too excited seeing them because you know they are going to be good, if you know what I mean. Not sure I explained that very well.

Jumping Bean and CtD, are your houseelves for rent? I would happily take them for the weekend?

Re Strictly and JS, I totally undertsand that it is the best dancers that are supposed to progress, but if they'd just look like they were having more fun rather than focusing on the winning they'd probably be more entertaining, but then i guess it is a competition and all competitions are about winning in the end aren't they?

Sorry Jo, my current house-elf is suffering the same sleep-deprivation as me, and the temporary ones live 250 miles away and only come to visit now and then!

The next one is due Monday - here's to next week ;)

Cheryl - I'll eat the tomatoes, but leave everything else unless someone hid it in a sandwich for me! Could eat a whole box of cherry toms in a flash :)

I have to say Mr Lawyer does all the washing up and the ironing casa lawyer. He also does a meal warm up of frozen food. But if he cooked proper food he'd spend an hour clearing up after himself.
Maybe i don't need the house elves after all?

BM - out of the 2 of us, I'm the tidier in the kitchen - it was drilled into me at the age of 14 from my ±«Óãtv Ec teacher ..... clean up as you go!! Which I tend to do.
