School life in the Sahara

Description

Students explain what it is like to go to school in the Sahara and what they have to do if they want to continue studying. The students go to a boarding school called 9 de junio. Here they study until they are 13 and then have to go to other countries to carry on with their studies. We also find out what students eat at the school and what they do after lessons.

Classroom Ideas

This clip could be used as part of a listening exercise where students make notes on the structure of the school day for children in the Sahara. Pose the question ‘Cómo es tu colegio?’ and the class could discuss the type of school they attend, the duration of each term, the languages or subjects taught and the food served there.
