Description
A look at the social and economic benefits that wealth generated by the slave trade had on Scotland and Europe. Almost every industry in Scotland at the time had some reliance on slave money.
Classroom Ideas
Investigate how Scotland benefitted from the slave trade. Produce a diagram of benefits to Scotland from the slave trade. Draw concentric rings divided into direct benefits, secondary trades and industries, and broader social and economic changes that resulted from profits of the slave trade. Look for evidence of links to the trade in different locations around Scotland, possibly with Glasgow as a particular focus.
