An illustration of what happens when a 999 call is made. The eight police forces in Scotland are shown and the different roles that the police play is discussed. The main roles of the police are to protect lives and property, to prevent and detect crime and to preserve order.
Classroom Ideas
This clip could be used as an introduction to a Crime and Law topic. Ask students to watch the clip and identify the main roles that the police have in society. Note that Scotlandâs eight police authorities have now been merged into one force - Police Scotland. The class could discuss why this has happended and what the possible pros and cons are.
