Convincing the audience

There are all kinds of small details you’ll need to get right in order to make a historical performance convincing. In the play, The Way of the World by William Congreve, which was first performed in 1700, the men use canes to add to the deliberate elegance of their stance. If you're playing one of these roles, you'll need to practise in order to learn how to use the cane correctly.

The actor, Matt Lucas, prepares for his role as Thénardier in the popular musical, at the O2, showing the intensive preparation involved in a period production.
