Example

A shop offers 30% off everything in a sale. The sale price of a pair of designer shoes is ÂŁ84. Calculate the cost of the shoes before the sale.

\(Sale\,of\,30\% \to (100\% - 30\% = 70\% )\)

70% of the cost of the shoes = ÂŁ84

\(1\% \to 84 \div 70 = \pounds1.20\)

\(100\% \to \pounds1.20 \times 100 = \pounds120\)

The cost of the shoes before the sale was ÂŁ120.
