Case study – The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is both a part of the Christian church and a charitable organisation. It is a Protestant church which is guided by its one mission, to reach "into the world of the hurting, broken, lonely, dispossessed and lost, reaching them in love by all means".

The Salvation Army has over 1.7 million members in 132 countries. The organisation offers help and support to those who are disadvantaged or facing difficulties. Their work includes providing food and shelter to the homeless and helping drug addicts.

The charitable work done by the Salvation Army is based on the teachings of Jesus found in the Bible, and they do all they can to help others. Members of the Salvation Army believe that everyone has a right to the basic necessities of life:

  • food
  • clothing
  • shelter
