Using the stage
Upstaging
If someone stands upstage of you then theyâll be dominant. This is because youâll have to look away from the audience to connect with them. Donât let that happen by accident. If someone is upstage centre and almost everyone onstage is looking at them, it must be deliberate, eg when theyâre a king being crowned.
Crossing
If you walk across the area to a significantly new position you cross the stage.
Clearing
When you stop, make sure youâre not blocking someone, especially someone important, from the audienceâs view.
