Fred was the 49th Brazilian player to receive a Champions League red card. Only France has had more different players sent off in the tournament (55).

Chelsea have won four consecutive Champions League matches for the first time since the 2011-12 campaign, when they went on to win the competition.

Sevilla were unbeaten in 14 home matches in all European competitions coming into this game (W12 D2), with this their first such defeat since April 2018 vs Bayern Munich.

Manchester United have lost four of their last seven Champions League home games (W3), as many as their previous 52 such matches beforehand.

This is the first Champions League fixture to ever have away wins in each of the first four meetings (excluding neutral venue matches).

The last player to score four goals for Chelsea was Frank Lampard in a 7-1 Premier League home win over Aston Villa on 27 March 2010.

While it didn't seem that important at the time, that late Neymar goal to make it 3-1 could make a big difference.

If United lose to Leipzig they are definitely out. If they'd lost 2-1 today then they could still have progressed with a defeat in Germany - if PSG also lost to Istanbul Basaksehir.

But head-to-head is the decider and now PSG will have the edge if the two sides finish level on points (so long as Leipzig don't also finish on the same points).

Chelsea

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard speaking to BT Sport: "Four goals at this level and the quality of the goals, individual aspects from Olivier [Giroud] and team aspects in the first half, from back to front the team were great, amazing solo performance from Olivier. Delighted with him, delighted with the team. This is a difficult place to come. There were moments in the first half where it was tough and we dealt with it.

"Olivier is reliable, full stop. Not just for us but his international goals for France, he's up there with great French individuals, he's got great statistics. I'm not too bothered about that in a way but I am bothered about what he gives us on the pitch. There couldn't be a team-mate there that the players are happier for because of the way Olivier is around the training pitch and in the games."

On whether he will play against Leeds: "We'll have to see - it's a tight turnaround but it's four goals in a game. It's not just his performance but when you play him and utilise his strengths and his speed, there's a real balance in the rest of the team."

On fans returning at the weekend: "Delighted to have the fans back with us, there's still a long way to go, it's small numbers in relation to the Premier League stadiums, small baby steps but it's something. The fans have supported us from afar and we appreciate that but we'll be delighted to have them back."

Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Fred's red card: "Fred shouldn't put his head towards him [in the first half]. I don't think he touched him. He was a bit lucky to stay on."

Did he consider bringing Fred off at half-time? "Yeah... Fred has played really well. We spoke about staying calm and on your feet. The second yellow card was nowhere near a foul. Ander [Herrera] knows that."

On Marcus Rashford's injury: "It's a niggling shoulder injury. Let's see how quickly he can recover. Hopefully he will be ready for the West Ham game."

On next wee's Leipzig decider: "We go into a game wanting to win. The games against PSG and Leipzig show how much we've developed in these types of games. It was just about finishing today."

Manchester United

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to BT Sport: "It was a very good game which deserved fans. With a bit more clinical finishing we should have finished the game. They were there for the taking [at one stage].

"We had some big chances. The difference when you get to the big games is the clinical moments.

"If Marquinhos had bigger studs on he'd have been offside. It's marginal. You can't really put your finger on the deciding factors."

Borussia Dortmund drew 1-1 with Lazio to book their place in the last 16. The Italian side would have progressed if they had won.

Chelsea won their group by thrashing Sevilla.

It's a nightmare scenario for Manchester United now. They wanted to get the job done this evening. They had the chances in the second half but I'll go back to that big decision not to take Fred off. I think that's cost United the game.

PSG saw out the game pretty well but that was when United went to 10 men. United had huge chances in the second half, they didn't take them and then you felt that PSG would always create something and now United have so much work to do.

RE Save [22:02]: 'If Fergie was here'. Maybe that's the problem, United's board, manager, team and fans living in the past... Ole refuses to park in the bosses space doesn't he? It's a joke! How will anyone respect him as manager if he doesn't respect himself? They spent years mocking Liverpool for living in their past, now look at them. It's time for someone to get a grip on this club and realise it's they need to move on from the ghost of Ferguson.

Chelsea

Chelsea's Olivier Giroud speaking to BT Sport: "When you win 4-0 in a Champions League away game it's always a great feeling and a good performance from the team. We took the game from the front foot and we were efficient up front, especially for me because I scored four goals.

"I didn't know until two years ago that you called it a perfect hat-trick, when I scored against Kyiv in Europa League I said what do you mean? It was good, I had good assists though.

"I will try to carry on like that to finish the good job of the team and it's always nice to be in the club history and we play football to mark our history so I'm pleased to help the team to win and to score the four goals."

On starting against Leeds on Saturday: "Let me enjoy the night and that great win and after that we will rest and we will see what the gaffer's plan is."

On return of fans: "It's been a long time, we miss our fans, football is not the same sport, the passion is not the same without the fans so obviously we are are looking forward to sat and wehope for a nice welcome."

Manchester United

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire to BT Sport: "Disappointing night. We wanted to win the game, win the group. Football is a game of fine margins.

"We had better chances. Their two goals are scrappy goals - richochet and pinball around the box. I feel we deserved something.

"You've got to take your chances and not give away soft goals.

"We're still in control of going through to the knockout stages."

On Fred's red card: "It's strange how he gave a yellow card [in the first half]. It's either a red card or nothing. It's not a yellow card [in the second half]. He wins the ball. I was two yards away, the linesman was five yards. Everytime you go to the floor - especially in Europe - you get a booking."

Barcelona are favourites to finish top of Group G after they swept aside their Hungarian opponents with three first-half goals.

The Catalan side - who rested Lionel Messi - maintained their 100% record in the competition this season thanks to goals from Antoine Griezmann, Martin Braithwaite and Ousmane Dembele.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 750th career goal as Juventus eased to victory against Dynamo Kyiv, a match officiated by Stephanie Frappart who became the first female to referee a Champions League contest.

Ronaldo scored the second goal after Federico Chiesa's opener, but had to wait for VAR to signal to Frappart that the goal could stand. There was a suggestion that Alvaro Morata was offside.

Morata then scored his sixth goal of the European campaign.

Juve face Barcelona next week for the right to finish top of Group G.
