This was billed as a historic Test - the first in India for nine years. It turned out to be memorable for England for all of the wrong reasons.

We thought this Test might end today but not before the UK woke up.

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur: "Everything went according to our plan. Credit goes to every member of our team. It was such a feeling after winning the game.

"I know I will get more opportunities to score more centuries and half-centuries [after her declaration]. Winning the game was very important for the team.

"[Pooja Vastrakar] was outstanding. Not only her but each and every bowler in this game."

More from England captain Heather Knight: "I think we had some brilliant performances, Charlie Dean bowled very well in that long spell last night.

"Lauren Bell - the control that she had and the ability to move the ball through the area and her consistency was a highlight for us.

"It's learning execution that is so important in these conditions. If you bowl in the right areas then you really have a chance to take wickets and you get punished if you miss that area.

"It's an awesome experience to play a Test match in India. It hasn't gone how we'd want it to but if we do play another one, we'll have learned a lot from this experience."

More from England skipper Heather Knight: "The conditions were extreme, they're something we're not used to and trying to find a way to score runs and survive. But the forefront is scoring runs and that was tough for us.

"We've learned a lot. I think we came out today better with our intent but I thought India bowled even better than they did in the first innings.

"Seam was quite tricky today with that little bit of movement, Pooja [Vastrakar] in particular just hitting that length found a bit of seam movement.

"A lot for us to learn from and improve on. India really tests you as a cricketer and it identifies areas that you need to have in your toolbox when you come into these conditions on future trips."

England captain Heather Knight: "I think India played outstandingly, with bat and ball. They made it really tough for us.

"The way they batted in the first innings, they really got the balance between attack and defence and we learnt a lot from that.

"I feel that as a team we've learned a lot and if we had another Test match in India, we'd be better placed but the main this is credit to how they played."

More from India coach Amol Muzumdar, speaking about the three debutants in his side: "It is a good sign for Indian cricket. All of them who made their debut really batted well and bowled well. It is the confidence that they carry.

"England is a top side, there is no doubt about it but, at the same time, these youngsters got a taste of what Test cricket is all about."

On Deepti Sharma: "You're talking about Stokesy? I jokingly call her the Ben Stokes of the team. She's fantastic. The confidence that she showed in her batting and the confidence she has gained from these two innings, nine wickets in the Test match, is amazing.

"I'm sure that she will put in extra effort in the next one as well."

On Australia Test: "We have back-to-back Test matches, it has never happened before so a lot of players will derive a lot of confidence out of this Test match.

"We're looking forward to the Australia series as well."

Unsurprisingly, Deepti Sharma mops up the awards. She wins three of them, including player of the match.

Heather Knight gives credit to India.

"We have learned a lot," she says. "If we had another Test match we would be better placed."

She adds that "the conditions were extreme". Not sure I agree on that point.

India head coach Amol Muzumdar: "It's been absolutely brilliant. For two and a half days, we've played some really good cricket.

"The girls showed what they are made of. Amazing stuff.

"No Test match is easy but the efforts that the girls put in before the Test match, we had nice solid group working at Wankhede Stadium so the preparations were pretty good and it resulted in a win.

"We had thought about it as a team and wanted to play in a certain fashion.

"I would like them to continue to do that. It [day one] wasn't planned on a 400-run day but we had to be positive and I'm glad that the team responded to that. It was a good first day for us."

The focus in this part of the world will be on England, but for India – and perhaps the future of Women’s Tests – this is a massive result.

If India can have another good game against Australia next week then there’ll be real momentum for more red-ball cricket, and that’s ultimately a wonderful thing.

In terms of runs, this 347-run victory is the biggest winning margin in a women's Test.

That doesn't include innings wins, however. England beat New Zealand by an innings and 337 runs in 1935.

Whatever way you look at it, though, that was utterly dominant from India.

India's coach has just revealed he refers to Deepti Sharma as the "Ben Stokes of the team".

Deepti ends with nine wickets in the match, as well as that 67 in the first innings.

This is India's first win at home over India.

It's also their first victory in the format since 2014.

Heather Knight looks pretty glum as she emerges to shake hands with the India players.

Her side have been bowled out in a session this morning.

A proper thrashing.

Back-to-back fours for Lauren Bell! The second is a powerful slog sweep.

That has the England bench smiling at least.

Charlie Dean is still fighting. She won't want to get out to her old mate Deepti Sharma.

It's actually really good batting from the England all-rounder, who cuts for four to start the over and ends it by using her feet before readjusting to play the same shot again.

She can't find a single enough so Lauren Bell will be on strike next.

Charlie Dean turns down a single with Lauren Bell at the other end. I'm not sure about that. She may as well take every run she can get.

These are obviously different conditions to what England are used to on the rare occasions they get to play a Test. Still, it hasn't turned that much.
