    Yorks 237-2 - target 360

This is starting to look ominous for Worcestershire, who have only two wickets and at present little control over the flow of runs.

James Wharton is down the pitch to Ben Allison, smashing the ball down the ground for four.

The last ball is a near perfect yorker but Wharton squeezes it out.

    Kent 494 v Lancs 327 & 388-8

Kent coach Simon Cook said last night that their video analysts would be keeping an eye on events at Trent Bridge today.

Wonder how they are feeling now in the home dressing room after Middlesex picked up a fourth wicket against Notts.

You can rely on the County Championship to provide almost as much drama as an episode of Midsummer Murders.

Ben Compton now bowling for Kent - just one from the over. Lancashire lead by 221.

  3. wicket

WICKET Root lbw b Brown 14published at 16:14 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Glamorgan 95-5 (target 384) v Derbys

Still hope of victory for Derbyshire as Pat Brown claims the fifth wicket of this Glamorgan second innings.

Brown, coming around the wicket to Billy Root, nips one back enough to trap the left-hander in front.

Glamorgan still have more than 25 overs to survive.

  4. Postpublished at 16:11 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Yorks 233-2 - target 360

Worcestershire need a wicket or three and have brought Ben Allison back into the attack.

James Wharton miscues a pull off Dillon Pennington and scrambles a leg bye.

Shan Masood keeps the strike with a single off the last ball.

Double change as Kashif Ali is coming on at the other end. He's only bowled ten overs of leg spin in all first-class cricket.

Shan Masood is forward to the second ball, swinging it through mid wicket for four.

  5. wicket

WICKET Slater lbw b Robson 49published at 16:09 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Notts 135-4 (target 207) v Middlesex

Wonder if there might be one or two nerves in the Nottinghamshire dressing-room? And at Canterbury, for that matter?

Ben Slater got stuck in the 40s and he misses out on his half-century, given out leg before to a ball from Sam Robson that seemed to turn a bit too much, if anything.

So Notts now have two relatively new men at the crease, with Tom Moores joining Matt Montgomery, and they still need 72 for victory.

  6. wicket

WICKET Clarke b Yadav 22published at 16:03 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Notts 133-3 (target 207) v Middlesex

Jayant Yadav finally gains some reward for his dogged spell as he gets one turning just enough to fox Joe Clarke and hit the top of his off stump.

Nottinghamshire need 74 more and they still have seven wickets in hand. Middlesex somehow need to take all of them to stay up...

  7. 100 runs

for Shan Masoodpublished at 16:02 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Yorks 222-2 - target 360

James Wharton turns Josh Baker round the corner for three, bringing Shan Masood on strike with 99 to his name.

There it is! Flicked to leg for one and that's his second Yorkshire century and his 23rd in all first-class cricket.

    107 balls and 12 fours.

    WICKET Bailey c Gilchrist b Nijjar78published at 16:00 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Kent 494 v Lancs 327 & 382-8

Tom Bailey pushes Aron Nijjar for a couple to go past his previous highest score of 77.

Two balls later, an ugly shot results in his dismissal as he carves a catch to Nathan Gilchrist at point, ending a stand of 124 with Josh Bohannon..

That's three wickets now for Aron Nijjar. Lancashire lead by 215 as Jack Blatherwick comes out to bat.

    Yorks 213-2 - target 360

The century partnership for the third Yorkshire wicket comes in 125 balls via a front foot clip through mid wicket by James Wharton off the bowling of Dillon Pennington.

Worcestershire are in trouble here, with both Yorkshire batters set and scoring fluently.

for James Whartonpublished at 15:56 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    That takes Yorkshire past 200.

    Wharton is on 48.

    Joe ClarkeImage source, Rex Features

Joe Clarke certainly isn't planning to hang around.

He thumps Josh de Caires to the boundary, then rocks onto the back foot and heaves the spinner's next delivery over the fence at midwicket.

Clarke is 16 not out from 11 balls, with Ben Slater on 45 at the other end and Nottinghamshire are just 84 short of victory.

  13. Postpublished at 15:51 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Kent 494 v Lancs 327 & 371-7

A single for Tom Bailey off Aron Nijjar and Lancashire lead by 200.

If they really wanted to make Kent sweat, they could declare and force them to try and bat out for a draw.

    Probably won't happen.

Tawanda Muyeye - who three first-class wickets - will bowl the next over and Tom Bailey pulls a long hop for four.

  14. Postpublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Yorks 196-2 - target 360

James Wharton is on the back foot to Dillon Pennington, punching the ball through point for four.

The next ball surprises Wharton for bounce as the batter is forward, taking one hand off the bat, jabbing the ball safely to the ground.

Masood takes a single off Josh Baker and next ball Wharton is forward, smashing the fifth delivery down the ground for four.

Good start to the session for Yorkshire.

  15. Postpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Kent 494 v Lancs 327 & 359-7

Tom Bailey thrashes Aron Nijjar over mid-off for four and then pushes into the covers for a couple to post a 100 partnership with Josh Bohannon.

Bailey is 64 not out and Lancashire lead by 192. In theory, there are 23 overs left in the game.

One little news line to quickly give you....Hampshire all-rounder Liam Dawson has been named this season's MVP (most valuable player), by the players' union, the PCA.

Ryan Higgins of Middlesex and Hampshire skipper James Vince were second and third.

"It’s great to finish the season the way we did against Surrey and ending up as the overall MVP winner is something that’s going to be difficult to beat in my career," Dawson said.

WICKET Ingram c Lamb b Chappell 18published at 15:43 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Glamorgan 79-4 (target 384) v Derbys

The draw might not be inevitable at Cardiff just yet...

Zak Chappell takes his second wicket as Colin Ingram plays a rare attacking stroke, cutting to gully where Matt Lamb pulls off a sharp catch.

Chris Cooke is the new man in for Glamorgan.

  18. Postpublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Yorks 187-2 - target 360

A rare loose shot from Shan Masood, facing the second ball of Pennington's over, driving and getting an inside edge to fine leg for four.

Possibly a bad omen for the Pears?

He punches the fourth ball through point for one.

James Wharton will keep the strike with a single pushed square into the on side.

Yorkshire have passed the halfway mark of their target.

Four singles off the next over, bowled by Josh Baker, but there's another loose shot from Shan Masood, who drives at the spinner and the ball doesn't quite carry to the bowler.

  19. wicket

WICKET Mullaney st Simpson b de Caires 30published at 15:40 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Notts 106-2 (target 207) v Middlesex

Josh de Caires takes a wicketImage source, Rex Features

Probably too little, to late for Middlesex but they have a second wicket, with Steven Mullaney taking a swipe at Josh de Caires and just moving out of his ground sufficiently for John Simpson to whip off the bails.

The Nottinghamshire skipper has to go and Joe Clarke comes in with 101 still needed.

  20. 50 runs

for Josh Bohannonpublished at 15:37 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Kent 494 v Lance 327 & 348-7

Josh Bohannon flexes the knees before driving Aron Nijjar to mid-off and sprinting through for a single to reach 50 off 108 balls.

It's the ninth time he has done it this season - and four of the previous eight were converted into hundreds.

Does he fancy another one today? 'Course he does.
