    So, despite a frustrating Friday at most grounds we saw one of the best knocks you will ever see from 45-year-old Darren Stevens.

    The Kent all-rounder blasted 15 sixes in his 190. Perhaps more extraordinary was his ninth-wicket stand of 166 with Miguel Cummins, in which the West Indian scored just one run.

    I'll be back in the morning with Paul Grunill where thankfully prospects of more play are brighter.

    The umpires have decided the light is not going to improve at the St Lawrence so that is it for day two.

    That could well be the end of a day at Canterbury that belongs to one man.

    Kent were about to be fired out cheaply at 128-8 before Darren Stevens got going.

    He launched a truly extraordinary counter-attack to haul Kent from further despair.

    He struck 15 sixes - one short of the record in a Championship innings - and 190 was the sixth-highest score in his Championship career.

    They took they're time but play has now finally been abandoned for the day at Chelmsford.

    Some brief play this morning where Tim Bresnan went to fifty for Warwickshire who then lost their last three wickets without addition.

    Nick Browne fell early in the Essex reply.

    The session has suddenly exploded into life.

    Billy Root three times cuts Miguel Cummins for four and then eases him through the covers for another boundary.

    But just as he's getting going some dark clouds roll in and they're off.

    Could be it for the day if rain follows.

    Tea has been and gone at Essex and the covers remain on.

    Only a matter of time before they call things off for the day surely?

    Still a mighty 39 overs scheduled at Canterbury but the forecast suggests rain and at least bad light is going to take out a chunk of them.

    But it's ideal now for Kent with good runs on the board, a couple of early blows and a chance to really get ahead of the game heading into the weekend.

    I fancied Darren Stevens' day to get a little better and it indeed has.

    He wobbles one back down the slope from the Nackington Road End, Marnus Labuschagne misses playing back and is gone lbw.

    Struck on the back pad, height probably isn't an issue but was he outside the line?

    Either way, it's another failure for Labuschagne.

    11, 12, 10, 0 and now 11 his scores so far.

  13. So, just the two games remain today. Tea is being taken at Chelmsford where the covers are still firmly on.

    They're into the final session on day two at Canterbury, but the wet weather is approaching.

    There is indeed no more chance of play in the West End of Southampton.

    Which isn't actually West of Southampton but there you go.

    Leicestershire will be mighty relieved but still have a day to survive tomorrow with 15 wickets in hand.

    Matt Quinn strikes in just the third over as David Lloyd is stuck in the crease to one that comes back down the slope.

    Hampshire seem to think chances of any more play in Southampton today are unlikely. I think that's being optimistic.

  17. No play Friday at Trent Bridge

    Notts 51-3 v Worcs

    Another one is chalked off.

    There was brief hope on a couple of occasions at Trent Bridge but they too have succumbed to the heavens.

    They've taken tea at Canterbury and Glamorgan are beginning their reply.

    No doubt shell-shocked after that Darren Stevens blitz.

    Glammy were on the verge of rolling Kent over extremely cheaply but two hours later they have it all to do to get back in the match.

    Surrey 185-8 v Middlesex

    Just over an hour possible at The Oval today before the rain arrived to take out the rest of the day.

    Two quick wickets for Middlesex earlier after Hashim Amla and Rikki Clarke batted nicely for the opening hour.

    Safe to say Miguel Cummins was a junior partner in that stand of 166 with Darren Stevens...

    Stevens made 160 of them, Cummins one and there were five extras.

    ESPNcricinfo reporting that Stevens' contribution of 96.38% is the highest in a 100-plus partnership in first-class cricket.
